Prayers can't feed starving children,
as bloated bellies can attest.
Yet, the truth's unpalatable,
near impossible to digest.
Dangled in front of hungry eyes,
promises raise expectations.
And trust defies reality,
fueling false aspirations.
Predictions of times of plenty
get planted like kernels of hope.
Yet, seeds of opportunity
are sowed on a slippery slope.
Paradise is a fantasy;
for in truth, there is no such place.
But religions assert there is;
struggling to maintain a straight face.
Rose-colored glasses distort views
of alternative solutions.
And so, we fortify wishes,
with optimistic illusions.
