All In a Day

Dawn's soft silence kept under gauzy veil Lifted by harmony of harp and flute Colors dance along roses, bright and pale Rainbows springing where fertile sky takes root Elfin robins follow the fitful wind Across freckled grass, where new faith consumes Mossy velvet bark, and sunny bees send Assured calendars of glory bound blooms Coy autumn flirts with stately august shade In kisses of crimson impertinence Where barefoot rivers rush in eager aid Hope overflows the banks of reticence This sunrise drips with beauty's sweet syndrome For it brings me the day you're coming home. 8/30/20

Michelle, this was the first poem I read when I received the 2nd Soup anthology in the mail yesterday, and just had to tell you how happy I am you chose it as one of your entries. It gave me chills to read it again. You've crafted this so exquisitely with the nature imagery and the underlying gravitas of welcoming home your love. Every time I read and comment I have a new favorite line, this time it is 'Assured calendars of glory bound blooms'. Absolutely spectacular poetry, congrats for having it published.

Oh Michelle. Your poem is so much more observant and lovingly written than a day in the life poem seems to be. Rainbows, Autumn, shade, anticipation. The way your poem embraces the reader is outstanding. Of course, Congratulations on your very deserved 1 Win.!

Michelle, MS Vincent would be proud of this gorgeous sonnet1 You have embraced and included love, longing, sunrise, roses, birds, music, bees, colors, rivers; in short you left nothing out in welcoming your beloved home. "Coy autumn flirts with stately august shade" is my favorite among many delightful lines. Speaking of favorite, this is going in my faves to be enjoyed again and again. Best wishes in the contest ~ John

I am actually reading a biography of ESVM right now called 'Savage Beauty' - and I think the more I delve into her sonnets the more the style is inspiring me - and this was inspired by the day my husband was discharged and I went to pick him up - so honored you made it a Fave!!
