Notes About The Poem

Addiction

You promised me that you’d abstain but all your words were just in vain You’re addicted to drugs, it filled me with pain as you claimed your demons had been slain The addiction was great, couldn’t be contained and our joint bank account was quickly drained You got sacked by work, couldn’t hold down a job sadly your need for a fix forced you to rob All of my jewelry vanished, you took it to pawn Precious family heirlooms that I’d seldom worn I’d see flecks of white power under your nose guess our marriage breakdown added to your woes With heroins vice like grip I can’t compete now you’re destined to live life on the street Eight Word Challenge Poetry Contest required words addicted, slain, demons, vain, abstain, woes, destined, drained Sponsored by Emile Pinet 8/5/19

Masterfully penned. Hope it's just really well-written fiction, because it's so painfully true-to-life!

Hello Jan … a sad reflection of a downhill spiral that is all too common in this modern society. How to control it seems impossible now - well done again Jan - Lindsay

Addiction is a crisis that society has to start taking serious. California is thinking of changing the laws so these people can be forced into treatment. I don't know? When you give up your freedom for security... you end up with nether. Have a great day my friend.

Yes, addiction robs you of so much. I was in shock when my son (during a family Christmas get together) informed me that my nephew had my purse. Later found out my daughter in laws wedding ring was missing and a credit card from another home. Thankfully he after much time in and out of facilities is doing much better. So sad the lows addiction will take one to. Nicely done.

Hi Jan: This is a very aggressive but strong poem on the vunerability of drugs. You have approached this problem with such reality. Gook Luck!
