Abandoned

Gripped by transgressions in life of destitute Withdrawn she lived in deviant troubled youth Orphaned long ago by her own living parents When in substance abuse she buried her soul Distancing benevolence as church-bells tolled. Abdicating love, she traded for buzz of lust Forsaking trust to bolster deceptive purpose Relinquishing sapience to forces of insanity Finding her pleasures in discarded emotions Someone volunteered on disgruntled streets At midnight hour agog in tumultuous alleys. Yet, her vacant heart was soon transformed When jettisoned chorus found her repertoire, As she spent nights singing hymns of joy And read stories aloud in her mother’s voice Cherishing how she swayed in her father’s arms As the song of her own womb sung of a new life. From place to place she went scouting spots Where kind-hearted people lived downtown And there she went when the church bells rang As she said a prayer after a very long time Asking for blessings as her newborn baby cried On a stranger’s porch near a posh high-rise Hiding long enough till someone took notice, Swiftly thereafter from the town she vanished. I remember when you first started poetry soup and you were a great poet...You have improved so much and now a master poet.... There are so many children who have been abandoned and I know so many who have searched for their parents, but never found them.

Vijay, Quite a journey you've taken in this poem. From the streets and back alleys to vanished with the peeling of the church bells. Isn't this too part of the circle of life though hardly wished for. Very well expressed. -Richard

Wow! What is most painful than a deserted soul whose land drought and still could find the power to survive and sing for life! What is most bleeding than tearing a piece of her parts and left in the hands of fate! What a thrilling feel! So powerful and genuine is your interpretation of being abandoned! I immensely enjoyed the read, dear Vijay! Definitely a fave and an outshining win! My deepest regards and blessings.

I don't understand how anyone could abandon their own child. This breaks my heart. Your thoughts curl gently around me and I am holding them so close. I am praying for change. ~ Brandy

Your poem, my friend, touched me deep in my heart for by the age of ten I lost my father and at the age of fourteen, I lost my mother. Your poem is extremely beautiful and well written but we really understand something in the degree we live a situation! Good luck my friend, Vijay! Blessings!
