A Winter Eve
While the earth begins its needed rest
I think of each season's pleasure
Pondering the wonders I love best
Each yearly phase has times I treasure
Priceless gifts given without measure
But when the north winds begin to blow
And the rain speaks with heavy voice
I watch the fire's embers start to glow
And know that I can make no choice
Yet in winter's frosty bosom I rejoice
Time to sit and read my waiting book
Wrapped in softest blankets warm
Giving the fall just one more look
While listening to the gathering storm
And watching clouds begin to form
A season filled with joyful celebrations
When good-will truly seems to abound
A time of buoyant thanks and jubilation
Nodding, I pull my blankets close around
Reflecting, winter surely wears a crown
For Carol's contest
