A Thousand Years
We don’t have a thousand years ahead of us
To visit Istanbul, or the streets of Damascus,
We don’t have a thousand years ahead of us,
To eat a banana split in Oregon,
To say "I love you" at a summer garden,
To say “I love you” to a crazy star,
We don’t have a thousand years ahead of us,
To enjoy strawberries with cream,
We don’t have a thousand years ahead of us,
To leave school and its pink paintings
To give flowers to our joyful girlfriends,
A thousand years to understand, all our weaknesses.
