A Sonnet On Shame
The mind of youth is a bird bold and free
Flew with wings spread on unsafe adventure
Harsh time hadn’t taught her yet to worry
Playing with fire became her nature.
Glow of beauty attracted fireflies with flair
Took her to a game of fire to play
The forbidden game burnt her hands and hair
She concealed shame in mind out of display.
Nothing escapes closed society's glare
Facing the pry in remorse and surprise
Her wide eyes could only freeze in shocked stare
To cover the shame the burnt hands could rise.
Fingers purse the lips, half-cover the face
Lest shame spills, on fingertips fire burns.
