a very evocative piece that brings to mind the symbols of dying and the transient nature of life that made their way into so many works of art during the middle ages: skulls, timepieces, coffins, headstones, bones, etc. I enjoyed reading your thoughtful Memento Mori, especially the lines "monuments to past existence from shadows of transience", and I congratulate you on your trophy win ~ John

Yours is a very thought-provoking metaphor, Brian. I'm reminded of my mortality, yet simultaneously inspired by "fascinating expectations," as your last stanza highlights. Congratulations on your first-place finish on Mile 22 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on because Mile 23 has already started.
