While caring for my father-in-law who was stricken with Alzheimer's~his words and actions inspired me to write his heart wrenching feelings.

This is a place where confusion found a home I am lost, in bondage, aimless, free to roam. I cannot tell you who I am or where I've even been, I am flesh and bone, eyes and ears draped in sagging skin. I long to be helpful,to have purpose and a place, But my mind it is so scattered, behind this aging face. I do not have answers to the questions you ask today, Although I live, my memory has passed away. I have never seen a sunrise or a blizzard until today. Today could be tomorrow and tomorrow yesterday; It really does not matter, my future has gone away. In spite of all that I am not, you do notice me, Yearning for a tender touch, a smile, a silent plea. I still breathe and feel and need you, more than I ever did before, The room is strange and I forgot your name~ But my son, I love you more.

Yes, they were difficult days. The sadness was that my father-in-law was a brilliant man, the Alzheimer's destroyed him. Blessings, Paulette

Well...hits home; my mother passed away from this illness. Runs in her side of the family. Reading this, I can see her face and eyes again -- that lost, fearful expression. Not fun. Great write and read. Brings needed attention to this subject. Blessings.

Yes, it is. The sad part is my father-in-law, during his lifetime, until stricken with Alzheimer's, was a brilliant man! Thanks for commenting. Blessings, Paulette
