A Goodbye Song
A Goodbye Song
How can I say this without hurting you.
I truly believe you and I are through.
I will not sayI was the perfect one,
Though the sadness I feel is etched in stone.
Once the sight of you enveloped my heart.
Your soft, kind way was so new on my part.
The other side, though, I cannot accept
I must matter, or it’s a lovely trap.
I made a fool of myself, you turned off.
Nothing I did elicited a cough.
Indifference is worse than overt anger,
Protection is to deem you a stranger.
Now winter’s wind blows through my empty soul;
Only Spring’s new warm growth will make me whole.
To your own desires I will let you go.
My darling Goodbye, I will miss you so.
Should those desires break through your indifference,
Don’t look for me, I’ve jumped over that fence.
