Months, days, hours,
Minutes, seconds,
Deteriorating,
An unsettling sight
Faraway vision
Into the distance
Not a care
For her family
Not even for
Her best friend
Lameness,
Unable to move,
Interest - gone
But,
Life lived
To the fullest
Petra
Has always been
One
Of a kind
Pouncing around awkwardly
Large paws, slanted ear
Energy to rival
The kids
At six months
Young children
Lying on
Her backside
Content as we
Gather together
Movie nights
Going for strolls,
Chasing squirrels,
Every. Single. Holiday.
A constant,
A member of
Our family
Many years
Of memories
Built, nurtured,
Boat rides,
Swimming in the lake,
Chilling outside
On family days,
Park fun,
Three litters,
Many nights
Spent in our bed,
And simply
Lounging about
Though there were
Also complaints -
Too much hair loss,
Yet, my security,
Not just a pet,
A part of us
Always there,
Always loyal,
Always loved,
And always
A GOOD GIRL
