A Faraway Place
Some of the most beautiful moments in time
are those that arrive unexpectedly and leave
indelible traces on the heart. ~ by poet
'pon Winter's wind a voice called to me
In barely a whisper, he repeated my name
It was as if he was asking a tender plea
Magically, nothing near me looked the same
for time had drawn me into Victorian years.
I found myself in a beautiful, faraway place
where there was no one I recognized.
It was not a sense of fear I was feeling
but my thoughts were reeling and my eyes ~
My eyes were on the brink of spilling tears.
A hand reached out and turned me around.
I felt very small for his height made me look up
In this man's visage I thought I would drown
Then he offered me wassail in an antique cup
I knew not from where he had simply appeared.
Not one single word did either of us speak
We stood side by side as it began to snow
He brushed a crystalline flake from my cheek
and in a deep but gentle voice he whispered low ~
"Have you ever read a Sonnet of Shakespeare's?"
Odd, I thought as the crystals kept tumbling down.
"He wrote in one, comparing snowflakes to kisses."
His smile reached his eyes and erased his frown.
I could only nod, not knowing who this man is
or that we seemed to be inside some kind of sphere.
He took my arm and led me to a gazebo for cover.
By now, he must have thought me to be a mute.
An assumption quite untrue, he would soon discover
when questions I asked proved me to be astute.
So many that he finally put his hands over his ears.
Patiently, he replied with quandaries of his own,
"Has there been something missing from your life?
Fate led you here, Lass. On the wind you were blown.
Could you live inside this fantasy world without strife?
If you can, then Truly I say ~ you belong with me here.
