I Bid You Goodbye

Sweet magnolia, petals of creamy white an ornament hung on evergreen trees Your beauty filled my eyes with such delight sultry scent drifted upon Summer's breeze Why do you quickly rush to blush in brown when I've added fresh water to your vase? Should I have left you as a jeweled crown on the tree that offered you a birth place? I beg you, please forgive my selfish thought Your dismal sorrow gives such cause to cry. You're dying too soon and it breaks my heart Farewell, lovely bloom, I bid you 'goodbye.' No shears shall I take to another bloom I cannot bear thoughts of causing their doom

Beautiful sonnet, accurately composed. I especially liked the last couplet, it shows mindfulness and the appropiate action that often follows. Thanks for sharing your insights.

I adore magnolias Jenna, the one I had in a pot disappeared when we had the garden landscaped ... I imagine it is blooming in someone else's garden not mine, love the liberal use of alliteration in your beautiful sonnet:-) hugs jan xx

Perhaps in your room they evaded their tomb a wee bit longer? As you may have noticed, honeybees actually pluck the stalks from the stamen to access magnolia nectar, so you actually saved one from going bald! Aloha! Rico

I tried my best to prevent it's premature death, but I'll have to admire them in the garden from a window. Such beauty should not have a shelf life. Thanks, Rico!

A very nice write Jenna, smooth flow, sweetly emotional. Overall a lovely modern sonnet. I love floral poetry which can have great depth of meaning when used metaphorically as John has suggested.

The sonnet is my favorite form, Jenna, and you have written this beautifully. Perhaps you are merely talking about the bloom or perhaps you are talking about a lover, though I would hate to think you caused your lover to die. I enjoy reading your work my friend, keep 'em coming. Hugs, John

No human was harmed for the basis of this sonnet. I promise it's simply about a magnolia bloom. Lol. Thank you for reading me, John.
