In Spirit With Trees

** In Spirit with Trees **

I feel sad, feeling a kind of tragedy
When I see that a storm
        has broken…
            has felled trees.

Grass everywhere green, rises.
Flowers splendidly gracing…And
Blessed crops progress us all… But,

The fig, olive, walnut, willow, ash, and magnolia —
The palm, maple, oak, redwood, and evergreen —
The any and every kind of tree affect me,
As I breathe and dearly perceive.
I must confide, my curiosity
      about trees has deepened
Since decades ago, when I read
      some Japanese folklore
Tells of the believing their ancestors
Could remain here becoming spirits in trees.

That idea — plus the knowledge about how eons of trees
evolved since their days amidst the dinosaurs —
Has
…increased my awe of them, as I see
growth and strength for purposes, and to possibly
inspire as towering sillouhettes against the sky…
Beautifully awakening wonder, with a mysterious
Sensing
Trees may stand waiting communicate.

Intriguing thoughts about trees and their spirits within, Sally. I once read a book (Scfi) by Orson Scott Card about the spirit in trees that spoke to those that cared about them. I believe the title of the book was, "Children Of The Mind". It was a later book in the Ender series. I enjoyed your tree poem and your thoughts about communication with them. Have a pleasant weekend. Bill

Yes Sally there is something magnificent and very "humanly " lifelike about a tree. They do communicate with their changes each season, their flowers and fruit. Through a closed window they can tell us the intensity of the wind. Trees are special, and so is your lovely poem.

I love your home cover; it is gorgeous. Trees live forever if given the chance.

They probably eventually die from a broken heart because I don't think many people would communicate with them. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara

Fascinating read! And we only see the surface, forgetting sometimes how deep and vast their roots like foliage reaching sky spreading out...to China even. Love the workings of your poetic mind. Blessings.

Sometimes sick trees need to be changed, but not the healthy and sturdy ones. I too would be sorry to see havoc in storms destroying trees and houses. Great thoughts.

True, Victor. When severe storms are previcted, i pray for people. Since this poem was to be about trees, i was thinking of how our latest storm ended with many streets impassable by felled trees & i felt4 the trees not the angry drivers. Destrying the Amazon forest cutting oxygen 4 the world! & nowI REALLY DO FEELTREES sending vibes of some sort as i pass them…Many thanks 4 your comment! xoxo
