Contest Description

What to Submit?

1 original, poem on the theme of something about society that bothers you. I am looking for free verse poetry that discusses a social issue (ie war, politics, media, pharmaceutical industry, etc).

I like to see a well thought out process about a specific issue.

Regarding the style, free verse, I am not a fan of free verse poems that just sound like someone is talking at me; I enjoy poetic devices (inner rhyme, assonance, analogy, metaphor, etc) interwoven with a non-structured scheme. That being said, vocabulary and language also plays a key role.

If you would like an example check out my poems “Atomic Apocalypse”, “Show Me Television” or “This is War.” I don’t mean to say I will choose those who write like me, I just want to read some interesting and well thought out free verse about a social problem.

Prizes

Placement is still arbitrary as I am still new to sponsoring contests, but I will be kind to all.

Preparing Your Entry

Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts.

English Language

Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.
