Weird Statistics on PoetrySoup: Spam Bots!

Many have asked about the strange increase in hits on certain poems. What's the cause? Bots!

The internet is being inundated by bots and invalid traffic from these bots. It’s happening to websites worldwide. Here's some of the latest news about the current bot war. Wickedness is running rampant!

Weird ! No, it's because of mankind. They'll always be ' Side effects ' to anything created. Just like in medicine. Good. Bad. Technically is the same way. No escaping it.

From the internet No, spam bots are not viruses, but they are malicious automated programs that can spread viruses, malware, and other threats. While a virus is a type of malware that replicates itself to infect a computer system, a spam bot is a bot that automates the sending of spam messages and unwanted content, often to trick users into downloading malware, providing personal information, or engaging in phishing scams I think the members should be very cautious here.

"They were built to amplify what performs, not to access what's real." From the article. So, if we can't trust the viewers numbers, maybe it could be dropped - by rights, it should not influence how we interact with a poem. The problem might arrise how the PODs are selected - perhaps a more hands on process? Also, the gallery lineup might be affected. Thanks for keeping us up to speed, TPS.
