I was lucky enough from 2 years old to mainly live first in Las Palmos then at 8 we moved to Tanganika whIch was a wonderful place to live and I saw many things and had great experiences My poem Walk with me tells of some of them and left me with a great love of nature

I have now written 4 books with a 5th on its way then I think I may call it a day as I am not in the best of health life can be a stuggle And my 75 th birhday is in March

Villanelle contest

It seems a few people are struggling to write a true villanelle

so I suggest that you take a look at "The Lovers" which was poem of the week that is a true villanelle. It is a very hard form to write in but very satifsing when you get it right. Good Luck to all contestants. Hope this helps you Shadow

What have most of them done wrong? Is it meter or is it more the form?

Actually meter is not required in a Villanelle, though some consistency in line length produces better flow and appearance. Mid-Nineteenth century poets tended to favor iambic tetrameter (while not required) and twentieth century poets like Dylan Thomas (as evidenced in the Poetry Soup example), more commonly used iambic pentameter - again, meter has never been a requirement though, since it originated in early 17th century France as a song, some type of rhythm was usually used. It's interesting that many poetry forms started as songs many centuries ago, but not surprising.

A bit of both lines count is off in some rhyme in others most are ok. It is hard form to write in hugs Shadow
