Hello Soupers...Has anyone self published their work?  if so...

1. Did you have to pay a fee?
2. Was it expensive?
3. Was it a smooth process?
4. Is your book online for sale?
5. Is your book in major bookstores?

I've never published anything. My wife was going to put a book of poems of mine together but I think it was a bit of a headache for her

I don't know anybody that did such quality work as Marie did. We could choose our own book covers, format, and fonts. A little extra for color and half my books had photos or illustrations inside them. I think I got a very good deal but I don't think marie offers the service any more.

David, i won three chapbook deals with Shadowpoetry.com (the prize from their annual contests sponsored from 2000 to about 2010) so I only had to pay for extra copies above the 20 or 30 I got for free. I did five other chapbooks thru Marie, $300/30 copies for each set). That included 40 pages with some color illustrations scattered throughout the pages. I'd get 30 of each one & Marie sold them in her online bookstore and all of us authors got 20% cut. She had to shut it all down when the economy got so bad. It was very sad to me. My friends had made reviews of my books there and now they are all down. I only have a few of the remaining copies of each publication, with copyrights and all.

I paid £140 to self /published an isbn chapbook, as a tribute, with the cinquain poetry of William Soutar, I sold 10:I self/published a book of my PS blogs (from 2007 thru 2009 called Retrospectives), and sold all 10 to folk here on PS: I am now only publishing on kindle (for that's where I feel the world has moved to), and have sold 50 so far:Both hard copy and digital books are very easy to do.So folks why not get out of the boat, come on in the waters fine!

Hi David, hope you gets lots of response to your questions. Some are publishing Ebooks... did you mean both ebooks and printed text? Hopefully, Brian will stop by and share his experiences. Hope all is good. Me? LOL... trying hard to be ;-)

my friend did it, david. he paid $2,500 for 300 copies.. the process was smooth since he gave the material print- ready... what he did was allow a major bookstore to put his books on the shelf with a percentage cut for the store... nope, he didn't sell it online... there!.. huggs

I have. 1. No. Only whenever a book is sold, Createspace/Amazon takes a small percentage. 2. Not really. 3. Yes, quite smooth. I had harder time just setting the book up the right way. :) 4. It is online for sale, yes, on Amazon. 5. Only available online. I hope this info helps! Cheers!
