RIP Winged Warrior

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of John Torchia better known as Winged Warrior, he passed away October 25,2020, I just received the news today from his family.

He was truly beloved by so many here, and we will deeply miss his intensely spiritual writing.

RIP John (Winged Warrior)

b August 1959-October25,2020 61 years old

This news comes as shocking to me. He was a beautiful human being and his death is a great loss to our poetic community. I am so sorry to hear our Winged Warrior has ascended to the heavenly realm. He will be very much missed by myself and so many others here. I am happy his wonderful poetry remains as one of his greatest legacies. Rest In Peace my dear poet friend. Blessings Connie xxoo

Thanks Connie it's true we have a real community here on the soup. It's amazing how close we can feel to a poet by reading their writings. I posted a tribute poems using some of his titles. He was a good man, and was a support to me when my wife was in the hospital a few years ago. Sooo sad!

This is very sad news. He was very supportive to me when I first joined PS. He participated in many contests and left wonderful comments. His poetry was superb. Condolences to his family.

Oh no!:-( I knew Winged Warrior to be a kind, supportive, wonderful soul. He placed at the very top of so many of my contests. I loved reading his brilliant poems. I'm gutted and absolutely shell-shocked by this news. I once told him I wish I could write like him! Easily one of the greatest poets I've ever seen on this site. A master of alliteration. He'll be horribly missed here. Wow, what a sad day. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP John/WW

So deep is my pain for the loss of so beautiful and compassionate a soul.. Unbelievable! He was such a comforting friend when I lost my mom and then I corresponded with him when he lost his. I am heartbroken once again. He was such a good and decent human being. I always enjoyed his poems I will be praying for his family in their time of bereavement. RIP John (Winged Warrior). So sad. Thank you John for the information.

Wingster, you are gone too soon, but you are in a wonderful place now. You set the bar high with the great encouragement and positivity you exuded with your poetry, comments, and friendship. I am devastated to hear this news John, I inquired from several poets, but nobody seemed to know. We will all miss him intensely he was a wonderful friend and became my superhero Wingster in my 4 episodes I wrote as a series - he will never be forgotten. Please John give my condolences to his family from me also. My prayers are with them. It is like losing a brother but he has left behind an unforgettable legacy on Poetry Soup. Oh, no ... this is such sad news, and I am so sorry to hear this ... he was one of my biggest supporters and encouragers from early-on, and was never ANYthing but positive and sunny to me ... far too young at 61, and it's getting so the end of October is a cluster of emotions - 27th my Dad and his best friend passed, 28th my oldest's b-day, 29th my mother-in-law passed, now the 25th for this very kind and loving friend. He will be sorely missed ... very much so. (May angels' wings carry you tenderly to peaceful slumber, my friend - thank you for your friendship and positive influence <3 )

Oh, the immense sadness I feel over losing John, aka, bro bro, a great poet and my dear friend, is truly heartbreaking.
