Ciao a tutti !
Welcome to my work and blog. Here are a few words about me.
        I was born and raised near Berkeley, California, and was introduced to the beatniks in North Beach by a high school friend in the late '50s. That is an event that influenced the rest of my life.
        I studied mathematics, philosophy, and German at university. By a quirk of fate, I became a computer scientist and website designer for most of my professional life. Since retirement, I have written poetry, essays, and translated German -> English and Spanish -> English. I write only free verse, haiku, and (some) prose poetry.

My favorite poets (in no particular order) :

Allen Ginsberg
Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Gertrude Stein
E. E. Cummings
William Carlos Williams
T. S. Eliot
Jack Kerouac
Alejandra Pizarnik
Charles Bukowski

Thank you for stopping by to read my work and blog.

PoetrySoup :: Typography III

Ciao amici!

In the past few weeks, I have been busy working on my website. Following the PoetrySoup crash a few months ago, I found that my changes to the display of my work here on PoetrySoup were no longer working, so I rewrote the changes and thought they might be of interest to some of you.

I discussed the method in detail in a previous post, so I will not repeat that here. As you can see, I have set up a method for displaying serif fonts on blog posts and my poetry, and other areas.

The code given below is set up for the poetry area. The upper section sets your poetry in a serif font (Palatino or Georgia in most cases) and the lower section sets your poetry right justified.

To use the code,

  1. first copy the code in the shaded box below,
  2. then go to the "submit poem" view of PoetrySoup,
  3. scroll down to the "About Poem" box,
  4. click on the "Source" button and
  5. paste the code.

<style type="text/css">
.poempre {
  font:1.25rem Palatino,"Palatino Linotype",Georgia, serif;
  line-height: 1.5rem;
  padding: 20px;
}

.poempre center {
  /* use <center> to right-justify the content
     cannot use on single lines on PoetrySoup */
  text-align: right;
}
</style>
