Pen A Sonnet On It

Blog Posted by Janis Medders Tobechi: 5/29/2016 7:14:00 PM

Thanks to everyone who entered my contest. All the sonnets were good. It was hard to judge and the Bard would be pleased.

I used strict adhearence to iambic pentameter although in some cases  the use of eleven syllables in a line caused the loss of meter. We know  that Shakespeare did not write everything in this form but a vast majority of his sonnets and plays are examples.

Congratulations to the winners and to all, when you have an intense feeling about a person place or thing, pen a sonnet on it in iambic pentameter, the heartbeat of poetry.

 Good Luck...

Janis

oh forgot to say, I once read a bunch of Shakespeare's sonnets and found that he could still keep the meter from sounding bad with 11 syllables. It depends where you apply the extra syllable.
