Just a small town girl ... with an old soul and a young heart ...

I was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, grew up in Iola, Wisconsin and currently live in Big Falls, Wisconsin... In my spare time, I enjoy writing poetry and researching our family history in order to preserve it for and to share it with future generations.

My poems have been published in every edition of Poetry Soup's anthologies, as well as various others.

In 2019, my poem, 'The Hollow', was published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It appeared in their school textbooks, audiobooks and online learning materials.

My Last Contest

I just want everyone to know that my next contest will be my last, because my premium membership is expiring soon.

It has been an honor and a privilege to judge the writings of such talented poets. I've had a lot of fun trying to come up with interesting contest ideas and themes that would inspire you to pick up your pens and write.

Thank you all for making this a great experience for me.

I would also like to apologize if I ever upset anyone with my decisions as a judge. I wanted to judge my contests as fairly and honestly as possible. It was never my intention to hurt anyone's feelings.

Kelly I have always found you to be an extremely fair judge and I have been so so delighted when I have placed in your contests. I am yet to be brave enough to host a contest - I did co-host one which Darren set up on our Jadazzle United page but sadly it still remains un-judged due to Darren's ongoing health issues. I hope you renew your PM and bring us some more inspirational contests in the future:-) Hugs Jan xxx

Thank you so much, Jan. I have missed Darren being here. I hope he is getting better and will return soon... You should try hosting a contest, Jan. There may be someone who is unhappy with their placement every now and then, but you can't let it bother you. Some people just take the contests too seriously, instead of having fun and enjoying it... I should be able to renew my PM very soon. Hugs :)

Kelly sorry that you will no longer be able to sponsor contests, judging is a difficult job for sure, I would love to enter your last one but honestly 1 do not recognize any of the contests mentioned, I have sort of been out of the picture for awhile ~~

I must say I am quite saddened by this news, Kelly. Every contest of yours I have entered has been a wonderful experience, and no matter how I placed I respect and admire the decisions you made as a contest judge. You came up with wonderful ideas and themes for your contest, and you may be sure that I will miss them. Hope you can do them again sometime soon.

Sorry to read that your membership is expiring. Hopefully you can renew it soon. From what you wrote in your Bio section, it is evident that you had no malice in regards to your placements. With every entry we make, we run the risk of N/A or some other perceived 'wrong'. That is just the way it is, if we get angry, then we will have to get over it or not. I just got done with my first contest, and the judging was more difficult than I assumed. Some may be upset, but you cant always please everyone. We all have bias, I eliminated some of that by judging blind. It is nice that you gave an unnecessary apology, it says a lot about you character, and it is consistent with your bio info.

Sometimes, people would include their names even when I asked them not to. But, I still judged the poem alone and nothing more.

Thanks Kelly. I am not a very sensitive person, so the negatives should continue to roll right off. I agree, blind judging is best. It helps to negate reciprocity.

I would like to renew my membership one day. I just can't afford to right now... I wish you all the best with your contests, Rob. Judging is not an easy thing to do. I ask for no names, because it is the fairest way to judge. I was very nervous about posting the results of my first contest. But, I knew there was no way to please everyone and someone is always going to be unhappy... I can give you the best advice that I received: Just let the negatives roll right off your back and judge how you want to judge. It is your contest, after all!
