Dear Poet,

By now you must be aware that our annual Women’s Poetry Competitions are open for entries – banging on about it, moi? But did you know we’ve teamed up with the Poetry School to provide a writing prompt every day throughout April? So if you want to generate new work, these daily exercises are a great place to start – click here  to read the full list.

And, and, and…  if you’re interested in sculpting your work into a sonnet or sestina, help is at hand in the shape of Poetic Forms, our nifty new how-to guide to the 15 main poetic forms. Just £3 to print out or download to your e-reader.

Our Poetry Competition for single poems is judged by the award-winning poet, critic and editor Deryn Rees-Jones, and the first prize is £2,000 plus an optional week’s writing retreat at the idyllic Cove Park, and a mentoring session with the editor of The Poetry Review. The 20 best poems will appear in the September 2015 issue of Mslexia.

Plus, this year we’re once again offering a special prize of £500 for the best poem by an unpublished woman poet.

If you’re working towards your first collection, have you considered entering our Pamphlet Competition? The first prize is publication by Seren Books plus £250, 25 complimentary copies of the pamphlet and 10% royalties from all subsequent sales.

The deadline for both competitions is 15 June 2015: still plenty of time to craft a new poem or whip that pamphlet into shape.

And don’t forget – the best way to keep up with what’s going on in the writing world, and receive year-long help and support with your own writing, is to subscribe to Mslexia magazine from just £19.50. Click here to select the ideal subscription package for you.

All the best with your writing,

Victoria Kirk

This is a very supportive Magazine with friendly editors. I highly recommend you stop by the site and submitt work here.

Anyone wanting help with preparing a submission just ask. Light & Love

From what I can tell after trying for about 2 years everywhere on earth LOL the easiest and least competitive category IF they accept it is - narrative non-fiction - the world is full of poets ODD yes? and yet we don't earn a decent wage.

Sorry Keith, I double checked only women, sometimes the magazines trying to aid women do allow male writer if they write on woman's issues but not this one.

mslexia is a great mag! i entered their pamphlet comp last year, didn't do anything but hey ho, that's the way the cookie crumbles...i'm going to try entering the single poem comp this year, i figure there's a better chance of winning, more placements/prizes up for grabs etc.
