Hello DEAR POET FRIENDS

An update from me.  Unbelievable damage to Asheville NC and a wide surrounding area. Whole towns washed away. So many missing and over 100 dead. Just want you to know I am OK but no internet since the event. I have spotty cellular data so wanted to let you all know why I am away. It has been amazing to see the people of NC and America coming together to rescue and restore water & power . They have had to cut their way through roads covered with huge downed trees. Our street power was restored last night because this part of town's electric was supplied by underground  since last year . They just had to repair the giant transformer and most of the grid to do it. Our generator is going to need the motor replaced when all settles down. Town  Water service also destroyed Surviving on bottled water. National guards have been activated. Gov. Ron  De Santos sent 100's of Linesman from Florida. So many old growth trees down they have to cut their way through to us. 5G fiber optics washed away. We didn't get a  free trial of starlink as we couldn't get online to order it. No word on when cable or internet will be restored here.  I am using cellular data to do this update  ...until we are back on normal services  I can't participate in my groups.  Have had to make this a group message to save data time. Do not worry. We are well and will come through OK.  Miss you all. SuZ

Hope life and Florida is back to normal soon. Was in Disneyland years back when the hurricane came close. You're a tough lot.

Suz, happy to hear you are fine, but what a horrible thing to have to go through. I feel so sad about the people who have died and are missing. And sad what you are going through to try to survive this. My prayers are with you dear heart. Constance

Prayers lifted for all the Hurricane victims (Helene and Milton). This personal report truly captures the horrendous violation these storms bring. The storms of life (true cliche) can be devastating but overcome by standing together in faith and bonding over shared calamity.

We were in Asheville that Thursday hours before the flooding attempting to visit Biltmore which had already closed. We were tempted to hang around and eventually have dinner at a Korean restaurant, but my wife suggested we head back to our mountain cabin in Franklin, where we were trapped for a bit but safe. Glad you're ok. So sad for many others

So glad you are safe Suz, it makes me realise how some British folk moan about the weather in the UK - but it is nothing compared to the devastation caused by the hurricanes. hugs jan xx
