“Getting to Know YOU" PERSONALITY GAME!"...**

Blog Posted by Suzanne Delaney: 4/7/2016 1:47:00 AM

*think of how it would feel to be an international best- selling poet... you have been asked to finish your first Poetry Collection. The only thing left  for you to decide on, is the design of the cover..

What type of visual will you pick for the cover?

  1. A soothing photo taken from some exotic location.

2. A playful cartoonish illustration or some fun images.

         http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k24/Pixordia/avatar%20Suz_zpsebsqug1g.jpg~original

3.An abstract pattern; one that will make people think.

4.  picture of yourself.

Here is where the fun starts:

Depending on which graphic you choose you will reveal your personality.

Write the number of your choice in a comment below and I will reveal your personality.

After there have been a good few responses I will post the results.

At last: THE RESULTS

1. soothing scene--exotic location:
~ you see yourself as a caring, gentle person who always has kind words for all.. it's hard to imagine how someone could be more sensitive than you.. just be careful not to put a wall around you that doesn't let anything get through you when you hide some pain.. just let you guard down and show people your vulnerable points.. they love you any which way--gentle or distraught!

2. fun, cartoonish design:
~ you are sociable, animated, and fun to be around...and you know it!.. sometimes though , you may tend to be a bit flighty and become carried away by the moment.. being able to make people laugh is an asset; make sure you are laughing with them , not at them... the former is your more loveable side!

3. abstract pattern--one that makes people think:
~you take good effort to express your natural creativity and talent to the world... your originality is recognized though sometimes, in moments of stubbornness, you may refrain to work with others who may not see your point...a balance of appreciating your own genius and other people’s own way of expression is the golden rule...

4. A  picture of yourself:
~ you take the straightforward approach, saying, "this is me, take me as I am", and you see that simple honesty is your strong feature... though this sincerity is done in a good light, it can be a sign of being quite a unshakeable-- "take me for who I am."... a happy compromise, some bending of a stern will can do you good.. people really want to see your best side.

The collection is going pretty well, I've written hundreds of haiku ... maybe one day I'll try and make it an eBook. Who knows!

So according to this I'm gentle and kind ... interesting. I always figured I was halfway crazy ... glad to know that others think differently ... lol!

Dragon and I would choose the fun, cartoonish design... I can't imagine why...LOL...

Dragons are always fun and eye catching.

I'm laughing. Okay, the cover should depend on the subject or theme of the book. So none of the above, unless I have written 150 poems on soothing nature, cartoons, abstract art which uses patterns or an entire book about me... many poetry books do include a tiny pic of the poet on the back cover, like Charmaine said. Sometimes, the cover art also echoes the title. Say, hmmm, "Tied up in String." It may have a photo of a vine wrapped around barbed wire... Now, if the blog said what flavour of icecream... lol... that I could have answered. Hee hee.

Cyndi! Hi, : I like your idea about the vine on barbed wire.....edgy. Well at least you are visualizing - the first step in making a dream come true.

Or... a plain paper box tied up with fiber optic cables against a black background would also be interesting. AWK... lol... now I'm thinking of covers! Too fun!

Hi, Suz.... 2 before 3... i don't see number 1 fitting my poetry.... Number 4 is out of the question. I don't think anybody would buy it if I had a picture of myself, unless I was super famous. ;)... fun blog. Linda

Makes us think about it at least. My only time published we were asked to design a cover page. I made a collage of a woman sitting on a fence with a skyline of clouds behind her. My title, " Her Head was always in the Clouds." Mum was always saying it about me.

1 in the front ...and a small picture of myself in the back along with a short bio...That would be number 4. I love going for semi-abstract,but not complete abstract then . : ) Nice blog.

Semi- abstract is good. I think a photo put a face to a name and makes a reader feel closer. SuZ

#1 (sand dunes)...perhaps thinly bordered by an appropriate #3 extending #3 around to the back cover, and inserting a small #4 in the bottom right-hand corner!? If given just one, then #1. I do not have these aspirations however.

Sand dunes are soothing. You never know. SuZ

I am inclined to pick #1, for the serene, or more serious poems I've written, however, as it was said below, it would depend on the type of collection I was putting together. Perhaps the abstract would be more appropriate for a multi- mixed selection, that included serious, light-hearted, and humorous poetry. :) I wouldn't choose a picture of myself as a cover, unless it was part of a tiny bio on the back of the cover.

So many choices. You will know the right one to choose. You have good insight and instincts.v
Date: 4/7/2016 11:51:00 AM
Good Morning Every one: I like all of your replies and I do agree with Craig that I wouldn't put my photo on a front cover. I would be more inclined to choose a cover based on the style of poems and have a small Author photo on the back cover. I like Tim's suggestion for a collection of Haikus. Somehow I knew what Ruben's choice would be ...lol so come back later and I will post the reveal in the main body of the Blog.

Am I the only one vain and egotistical enough to self proclaim, that what's inside the book covers , pales into insignificance with what happens between the covers...lol...nice blog
Date: 4/7/2016 7:55:00 AM
My first answer is none of the above but if I had to choose one it would probably be the first photo. I say that because it looks more like something one would see on a book of poetry, sort of inspirational.

Thanks Daniel: I think some editors will tell you they know best but for self publishing go with what feels right I guess.
Date: 4/7/2016 4:47:00 AM
I adore the calming bluebell woods image but would have to go with a humourous image so it would be 2 ... but of course it does depend what type of book you are writing:-) hugs jan xx

3 would be my choice, though i do like 1...i predict mainly 1 and 3 answers because poets are generally very visual

I would pick Number 1. My brother took a really cool photo of some train tracks in an old logging town one time, and the very moment I saw it, I thought: "That looks like a cover for a haiku book." .... curious about the results!
