Bringing old Poems to Light

Blog Posted by Suzanne Delaney: 1/27/2023 6:49:00 AM

I know most days we are short of time and tend to click on a fellow Soupers most recent poem,
however today when I went to Tom's page there was no recent post. I decided to go to his last page and read  this one. So true and timely. Please follow the link if you have time and read this deserving poem that Tom has penned, and now and then give attention to a fellow supers older poems as well.

Suz, yes, you are so right, reading poets older poems is a wonderful idea, and you are also right about being short on time. Where does the time go, it is so frustrating each day I cannot get all the things I want to do done! I will go to Tom's poem, he is a fantastic writer so I know it will be good, blessings ~Constance

Hi Constance: Thanks for your feedback and we can’t be too hard on ourselves for not being able to do it ALL. As long as we can enjoy what we encounter we are doing well. Hugs, SuZ

That's a great idea Suz, you're right about not having enough time and the daily poems list moves so fast. I agree with Gary, there's an absolute treasure trove of poetry hidden in the archives of this site. I know you can nominate your poems to be showcased and admin inform you when it will be shown at the bottom of the main page but that only happens once in a blue moon. Tom

Nice to hear from you, Tom. I guess the ability for us to be able to follow the poets we like is a good start as there is only so much we can humanely accomplish in one day. LOL SuZ

Hi Suzanne. I've often argued for the ability for Soupers to pin a poem at the top of their list. I totally agree with you. Many people look at the poem at the top of a person's list and yet, as I have found with poems such as Tom's 2017 'poem 'Our Broken World' mentioned - there are absolute jewels hiding deep in buried pages. Nice one Tom by the way! Cheers - Gary

Hi Gary: I know I have seen where you made that request and suggestion. Maybe it will happen - until it does we have to dig for the jewels ourselves LOL Cheers, SuZ

Tom has always been a great poet, and this is an amazing old poem by him, Suzanne. Thanks for making us aware of it. I visit old poems of PS members--usually from the very last page--from time to time. I do notice my own poem, "Echo Chasing" is still getting views. Thanks for the visits.

Good idea. I think if one is interested in a particular body of work by a poet on poetrysoup, it is always a good idea to begin reading the poems that poet has posted beginning with the oldest (first) poem first and then progressing through all the listings up to the present day -- a feel for personal progress may be gained, along with a deeper appreciation of the body of work of that particular poet. Oh, and don't forget to make some comments along the way as you read. Thank you.

That is an excellent point about the body of work as a whole, Leo: I appreciate your thoughtful and informative response this morning. Best, SuZ
