Holiday Haiku FINALIZED

Hi everyone, what a learning experience doing (or attempting to do) these haiku is! As much as I like to keep slots 1,2,3 single placements, I just couldn't do it this time! All the folks who placed did a wonderful job is "showing" a holiday.

I was recently told some feel I do not pick poets for the top ten slots who express their verses in a heartfelt way. That I always favor the voices of the mind. I think I bend over backwards to let everyone have a voice? Yet, if anyone EVER has a problem with my selections I would want to hear about it in Soup Mail. Most times, I have had discussions with "you" and you have chosen to take your own path, this is MORE than fine, but, may cause you not to place?

Please let me know here in the comments if you feel I should try harder to be fair?

PS I did that group meditation last night at 11:11 for 11 minutes wowser! I feelt like my third eye was "burning" SO much "juice!?"

I think if you know you judged fairly and honestly you should feel no guilt, so I am sure you did? But I do recall, Deb, even you, yourself questioning placements from time to time, is that not right? Judging is not easy, someone will be unhappy, someone will be hurt, that is the downside of contests, I have felt the pain of defeat and the glory of winning, but one thing I have learned is to love my own poetry no matter who is telling me to change it or who is trashing it~~ Constance

I just got back on the computer for a while this afternoon to learn of my placement in the contest. Thank you so much Deb for my placement. Because of it I don't feel any comment should come from me about the contest. But I can say that even though you and I have lightly disagreed at times with each other and with other poets, I kmow neither of us would do anything to the other or to other contestants except judge poems on their own merit, and not for personal feelings about the writer. Personal feelings change for better or worse at times but once that poem goes into print it is there for a long time speaking for itself, so we can't treat it lightly. You do a good job.

Oh Poopie it is over before I entered Deb. Well maybe the next one.I have been so buzy with my soup mails. Can you tell us more about the sestina? The form definition here on the Soup seems pretty vague. And thanks for my placement in your holiday contest. Sooo many great Christmas poems! Love, Carolyn

Deb, judges have to base their decisions on their own set of criteria. Some look more for structure and form, others seek messages. I try to offer spelling/grammar suggestions and sometimes people are grateful for these. If we don't like the way someone judges, we have the option of not entering their contests. I think most people understand and there are only a few who complain. If that's happened to you, don't let it get to you. Love, Carolyn

Oh...and thanks Debbie for my placement in your contest! And congratulations to all your winners. On second guessing my own...I'm wondering if it borderlined on being a senryu? What's your opinion...I still get them muddled from time to time. :)

I for one, have never had any problem with the judges....it is their contest and their decision to make...I just appreciate your willingness to go out on a limb for the rest of us, who care to enter. I hope that people are kind, and do not have any arguments with your selection. It is our own choice to enter. I think each judge has a right to pick the poem that speaks to them...regardless of what we think.
