My name is Timothy Hicks, and I've been writing for 5 years now, since I was 13. My main hobbies include writing, playing my piano, origami and bicycling.

I'm a bit OCD about some things and some would refer to me as a nervous pacer. I like to do outdoor activities, but at the same enjoy my alone time where I can sit and write. I'm a very avid reader and enjoy several different genres: horror, science-fiction, fantasy, and mysteries such as Sherlock Holmes.

I've had several different jobs including shakerboarder, pizza-make and cotton candy maker-and-distributor.

I like to think of myself as someone that can fit into almost any crowd and I always try to stay on the bright side of things. I swear very little and hardly ever get mad at people. I believe spreading smiles is a much better practice than sharing negativity...

Glitches

Hey Folks ...

A couples times after finishing up a contest I'll read a couple poems that have a note at the end that says, "Entered into such 'n' contest", and I realize that I've never actually read the poem. I'll send the poet a Soup Mail and they say they entered it in, but I check back and I never received it as a contest entry.

This happened with my Ghazal contest and my 13 syllables or less contest. Is this a common thing? Has this happened with anyone else? It's kind of unfortunate because people think their work was rejected when it actuality it was never even sent in ...

-Tim

That has happened to me a few times Timothy. Now I double check after entering a contest by going to member area and then contests entered. It is very disappointing to write a poem especially for a contest and then see it never was entered. Stuff happens! Thanks for your blog. Aloha, Connie

I think a website with as much traffic as here is bound to have glitches. I remember times when a poem I gave a good placing to showed on the next page as being N/A'd I had to re- check it with the correct placing. I know I have had poems I entered that I knew were good entries but show up as being N/A'd so, I don't entirely trust the system.

Tim, it has never happened to me, but what I have done is thought I entered and did not or entered it in the wrong contest, now I always check my own contest entered page to make sure it is there and in the right contest... not sure if that is a guarantee, but so far it has been okay, if I see even an NA, I know the poem was in the contest . . . often when I sponsor a contest, I get a few more poems even days after the 35 is reached, that is something I do not understand, how did they enter when the contest was not on the contest page anymore ??

Once in a while people forget to actually enter the contest, like Craig said. Sometimes several poems get into a contest at the very last minute. Maybe it's too many people entering at the same time. I've had poets tell me they entered, but their poems never had appeared in my box. it does not happen often, but it does happen. are you still in Texas? Keep on truckin'

I've heard others mention this before. I wonder if it is the same jumping that occurs when two comments are made on the same blog or poem and then they get entered into the wrong contest.

"Entries meant for other contests." Are you sure they are for other contests? Examples I have seen are trolling.

That's too bad :/ The weirdest glitch that happened to me was that I received a contest entry AFTER my contest was over. I sent the person a response and she said she never sent it and hasn't been on the site for months ... weird!
