My Biography is Coming Soon... When I was 13 years old I began my conquest Of poetry. I put my hobby on hiatus after Determining that my efforts were fruitless. After ten years I returned to writing. This Episode i was much improved. I wasn't Able to keep track of any of my early work Due to a number of relocations. Now I am an Active member of poetrysoup where I have Published about 400+ poems including: HAPPINESS OF LIFE ON THE PATH OF PASSION TWILIGHT LIFE SHOOTING STAR DREAMER WHEN DREAMERS DREAM OF TRIUMPHS That's a micro collection.

When I initially joined PoetrySoup I was so naive. I became disillusioned

Thinking I would write my best poems and I'd be within the ranks of Gwendolyn Brooks, EE CUMMINGS, LANGSTON HUGHS. Through the

Years I have learned that I would have to hire an agent which I can't

Afford. If this part isn't bad enough here is the icing on the cake.

Agents are very UNAFFORDABLE.

THERE ARE MILLIONS OF POETS THAT WANT TO BE PUBLISHED

ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING. So if you choose this route but your Book

Doesn't sell. Then this means you sold your soul for an UNATTAINABLE DREAM OR PIPE DREAM. SO I'VE DECIDED THAT POETRY IS ONLY A HOBBY. See you around the internet you gifted souls.

Well publishing your poems doesn t help much, especially if you re interested in money, if you want publicity than you can always hire an agent and publish your poems but again it s a really difficult and lengthy process, the best option is to publish a novel, it provide a suitable money as well as publicity, write a good novel( you can add your poems in it as well), then hire an agent, probably a good one( he/ she will tale 10% of the total you ll earn), and try to get your novel publish either via penguin or simon and Schuster as these two are the best, I was working on a novel but has to give it up as there aren t any good agents in Pakistan and as I m 15 right now so Idonthave resources

For many poets, fame came post humously. It is a world view that expressed at the right time appeals to the zeitgeist. Doesn’t seem to be something we can control. We write what is in our soul because we are moved and if it moves others in the same way that is where appreciation kicks in. I find poetry also is a lot of work on top of inspiration. Good Luck in your endeavors. Agnes gave good advice if being published is your goal.

Also, agents do not usually take on poetry because it does not pay. Often, book contracts for poetry are awarded as a prize for a competition; you submit a manuscript, and if it wins, they publish the book.

"So I've decided that poetry is only a hobby". I am not sure that has anything to do with publishing. Even published poets cannot live on their poetry; with extremely few exceptions they all have day jobs. Sometimes the jobs are related to writing and come about through their poetry success, but often they are completely unrelated. William Carlos Williams was a doctor. Frank O'Hara was a museum curator. Whether poetry is a "hobby" or a defining life purpose that consumes the time that is left after earning your paycheck is a question of mindset.

You should contact Cyndi MacMillan, she is continually getting published in different journals, maybe she can give you some advice, and encouragement. Maybe you won't publish a book, but if you get some of your work published in journals, that might be nice, right? If not, at least poetry is a nice hobby. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I wish you well.
