My Biography is Coming Soon... When I was 13 years old I began my conquest Of poetry. I put my hobby on hiatus after Determining that my efforts were fruitless. After ten years I returned to writing. This Episode i was much improved. I wasn't Able to keep track of any of my early work Due to a number of relocations. Now I am an Active member of poetrysoup where I have Published about 400+ poems including: HAPPINESS OF LIFE ON THE PATH OF PASSION TWILIGHT LIFE SHOOTING STAR DREAMER WHEN DREAMERS DREAM OF TRIUMPHS That's a micro collection.

Have you ever heard anyone say "PEOPLE MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND?" It's true you know.

Has it been proven opposite? The Sun rise occurs for the benefit of living beings ESPECIALLY humans. Then truth is fact , that we are the caretakers of this planet. So we should all become fans of the beauty of this planet, flagrant , breath taking beauty.

We have been PEOPLING THE earth for millenniums. Even at times been responsible for erasing the BEAUTY Of this sphere, with Forrest depletion, and pollution. We need a healthy planet. This used to be a glorious sphere and some of us still live here.

A healthy planet supports healthy people, living longer and stronger. Think, what if human life became unsustainable? We should remember that the earth is alive. If we take care of the earth then she will take care of us. This is, for NOW the only place we have to live.

Some of us have began caring for our planet. They are making it one of their life assignments.

It shouldn't be thought of as a chore. Instead...... the destiny of us all. A way of life.

I'm not sure how short time is. It may be quite diminutive, but it's not down to the wire enough yet, we're not truly pressed, with our backs against the wall - that's when we are capable of some pretty good action.

1.) Chris, no question that our present course is unsustainable. Humans have increased the rate of species extinction by a factor of about one thousand. I don't think "a vast majority" are headed for total death in the next 100 years, i.e. the rate has gone from around 1 per million to 1000 per million due to human activity, but still - vast and dreadful effects.

2.) Yes, ocean levels are rising and the oceans are heating up - that's the real deal with global warming since seawater has roughly 4000 times the thermal mass of the earth's atmosphere. Billions of people have problems with access to clean water, and this is a rapidly escalating problem.

3.) As you say, parts of the seas are horribly polluted, as with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (also known as the Pacific Junk Vortex, Pacific Trash Gyre, etc.). You ask how dire does the situation need to become for people to suddenly turn away from it? Well, it needs to get much more dire still.

4.) Yes, nature will have effects in the future - I can guess at new diseases or harmful-to-humans algae blooms on the oceans, perhaps. Yet how many people are making meaningful, substantial changes in the way they live? I say very few, and even with their effect in hand, the world's population is still growing fast enough - about 75 million per year - that the net change is to the negative.

5.) Population pressure is really the thing, and it's still increasing while the effects worsen. Much of the world - as with the 'BRIC' countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China - recently developing ones, are just now getting large middle classes, and they want vehicles, paved roads, washing machines, etc. This is a massive increase in consumption and human effect upon the earth.

6.) I can't "blame" them for wanting what I take for granted, and it's only natural that a huge number of less-developed countries around the world are trying for industrial growth, even at great cost to the environment.

Keith, I'd say that "we have a lot to answer for," ever since the Industrial Revolution began. Agreed on the massive changes and the fast rate of change recently and at present. That "if" you mention - there's not going to be any real "fixing," if ever, until things are a good bit more dire than they are now.
