Don't Let It Slip Away

I am one of many poets

That is fulfilling an urgent,

More so, indispensable need

For immediate expression.

Inspiration is as fleeting

As the thought that had provoked it

And therefore must be hurriedly

Resolved or forevermore lost.

To ignore this stimulation,

Allow it to flitter away

Is worse than if you’d entertained

The moment and it went nowhere;

At least one can rationalize

The effort one put into it.
