Our Broken World

Many years ago, when I was just a young boy
The world was a safe place there was lots of joy
But I'm a lot older now and a lot wiser too
And I've seen the evil that mankind can do.

But when you read the news or switch on your TV
There is no more good news or is it just me ?
I look all around me and this is what I find
A world that's full of evil that's terrorising mankind.

Men have twisted religion and suited it for their needs
They think Gods on their side and commit evil deeds
You cannot oppose them for they will likely kill you
You must go with their ways it's all that you can do.

There are many oppressed communities living in fear
They call out for help, but the world does not hear
But sadly, that that much needed help arrives too late
By then some communities have met with a terrible fate.

There is no prayer book that says it's okay to kill or maim
But they carry out evil atrocities in their 'Gods' name
Their 'God' must be an evil one not the one who is kind
They're brainwashed by others with a twisted mind.

But there's hope do look around you, and you will see
People doing many good deeds for others selflessly
It certainly helps restore your faith in humanity
And you think to yourself that's how it should be.

Tom, I can relate to what you have written! I feel the same about this broken world, and I realize that I have no control except over me, so I must do whatever I can to do good in the world around me. Wonderful message and writing, blessings ~Constance

Tom: You have precisely expressed what is happening in the world today as opposed to a more peaceful time. We are witnessing the return of Woden and it doesn’t bode well. Glad I visited one of your older poems. Best, SuZ

Thank you very much Suz, one of my earlier ones, I never remember it being that bad years ago, terrorisim was unheard of. Mankind will be the cause of his own destruction the way things are going. Tom

This is exactly how I too feel. The world has changed so drastically from what I have seen in my young days. Now TV and news papers bring us news of war and rebellion, rape and molestation, theft and violent death. We wonder where all goodness has flown away. Of course there are good people who keep the world going. They stay as beacons of light in darkness

Thank you very much Valsa, I fully agree, years ago there was no terrorism and the world was a peaceful place. Yes you had the odd conflict but not on the scale we're seeing now. Tom

Men are “right” in their own eyes…very sad indeed.
