New PoetrySoup Anthology or Book. What are Your Thoughts?

Blog Posted:2/13/2023 11:55:00 AM

We get emails frequently asking us when we will produce another anthology. So, we want your thoughts on this. Should we produce an anthology similar to the two we have produced in the past? Should we create a different type of poetry book? What should we do to help promote the works of PoetrySoup members?

I think a third Anthology would be great and allow more poets to participate.

It would be wonderful to publish a new anthology. I do wish that there was a way to publish specific poetry for our faved poems of PS poets as well. Is there any way that you could do that? It would be absolutely wonderful. Even small volumes from some of our own specific favorites would honor our poet members so much and bless us as well. I think maybe like the Leaves of Gold published works from in the 1980's would be easier to manage on what I am dreaming of, which was sort of the old-fashioned 1940's era scrapbook style. Sorry, how I am going on. I love PoetrySoup so much, I truly mean it. Thank you for a safe and lovely place for us to share our poetry <3

I am excited about this new publication. What sparked my interest was the thought on Kindness introducing this Anthology. A book of peace and kindness that would bring the Spirit of God to our hearts in this troubled world around us. A book, a chair, a fireplace and the warmth it gives would be a wonderful place indeed to read it.

I hope it could be a book. However, with todays relevance I am envisioning a poetry soup both hardcopy of book and e-book so that it could reach a greater audience. The purpose of poetry soup I believe is to be tasted by all. Thank you.

With so many members on the Soup, you'd have to have a monstrous sized book to include them all. I've read several good suggestions from other members. Such as splitting them into themes on a quarterly basis and then combining them at the end of the year. Whether hardback or E-book should be determined by the majority. After all, it's our work and everybody wants to be heard. I'd be interested to know if those included in either would receive any royalties for their poems. I don't think anyone would care to just give them away, me included.

Another P.S edition will no doubt be welcomed by the Soupers. Given the cost to produce larger books. Perhaps smaller less bulky editions would be more cost effective? Selecting only one poem per poet per category would allow for more poets to be included into the book. This would likely be better recieved and create more sales.

Divide the book into themes as already suggested by others. (Great idea) :-) Suggest single annual/ biannual physical coffee table "best of" book and if Soupers wish for quarterly editions, those can be e-book format. World is bad enough with everyone's nose buried in phones at a dinner table. In Canada, the economy used to thrive on pulp and paper industry. We need to encourage continuing to support the printed matter industry; not losing that to electronic storage which can be corrupted by ransomware hackers.

Welcoming the proposed new issue of the third poetry anthology,I wish to mention that,PoetrySoup can select a poem from the poets from every country of about 186 nations in the World making poetry creations to soup. This will creat a real Globalization literary product because as the way forward soup is marched only poetrysoup can make this to happen.

The idea of publishing a new PoetrySoup Anthology or Book is welcome. Consideration could be given for publishing members poems on a more frequent basis. In view of the volume of work involved, a semi-annual or quarterly publication of a smaller volume than the preceding ones, giving chance for new members to feature therein would be advisable. Thanks for seeking comments

As they say, the more the merrier! It's a tremendous honor and privilege to be a part of the previous anthologies; all 6 poems I submitted were published. I'm truly grateful! Keep on publishing anthologies, TeamPoertysoup, just not as voluminous as the previous one. Godspeed!

I agree with some of the comments made elsewhere. I think the second anthology was too bulky and smaller anthologies would be better. I also think that organizing poems in a smaller anthology around a common theme would help to promote poets generally because themed poetry is simply more targeted and more marketable. While I have no objection to e-books, I really like a hold-able book, preferably small enough to fit into a pocket.

I love the anthologies. Instead of one book per year, would it be feasible to publish quarterly anthologies, each with a different theme, and then combine all four into an e-book at the end of the year? Or, quarterly e-books and then compile the four into a hardcopy to be sold at the end of the year?

Good idea...different categories love, religious, protest etc. Possibly we help defray costs. This time of inflation costs are skyrocketing. Maybe everybody puts a said amount in the pot or the authors who are chosen...

it would be another great idea to publish again another Anthology to continue to ibspure and promote poetry and the site. With regard to selection in order to accomodate also those who have not included from the past antgologies it would be better to limit it to one poem per author and if possibly consider those who have not included yet without sacrificing the quality of the anthology..thanks!

How about setting up a time limit of 1 month for everyone who wants to enter to post their favorite poem. For the following month we would give PoetrySoup a month to pick their favorites from those entered. The following month do the same and then do it again one more time. But we could only have 1 poem each selected for the new book . Total of 6 months to complete. This would make the book smaller and give everyone a better chance to be included in the new book. Also include all forms of poetry.

I think we, every member of the poetry soup needs to get chance to be enlisted as poet of the Anthology though some poets still did not get chance in previous published both of the anthologies. So, I can suggest to create one more E-Version Anthology and then the PS Authority can go to create Poetry Book. Thanks a lot to PS Authority for giving me an opportunity to express my thoughts about that.

Doing more anthologies will continue to boost the works of members of POETRY SOUP in the World, As some poets had not got chance to be selected in the previous Anthologies.

Yes, definitely--though shorter than PS...v.II. Also agree with some others that it would be great to publish an e-version (in addition to a hardcopy).

I love the first two and would love a third book. Many still like the feel of a real book. If you do an E-Book, then please do both. A short bio would be a nice touch. Cannot wait to see/read the third book. Good Luck With It.........................

I like the idea of a third anthology, though smaller than PS volume 2. You could have poems that would rate first place, second place and third place with comments on how to improve the poems. Also, a short bio on the writer would be nice.

By all means! Anything to help promote the works of PSoupers! I would like to propose a bit more "quality control", however. I was thrilled and delighted when three of my poems were selected to be included in the first anthology, but that elation soon turned to dismay when I realized that you had published all the pieces exactly as they were on the site with no apparent editing. And then when I got to the one about being at a circus in "a front rose seats"...I almost cried. It is, in my opinion, irresponsible to publish something like that and put a price tag on it. Please, by all means, do another...and another...but just be a little more selective in your selections.

I like the idea of another anthology though maybe not as large as the last one as I'm still not read through half of that one. I also like the idea of themes and also making it an e-book is good one. Categories is a good idea too so to include various types of poetry.also having a short bio and pic would be helpful.

An anthology for members sounds great. It is good for members to gain exposure. Different Poems in different categories and perhaps a section for short stories to show what poetry soup is offering. An essay could be added for those who are interested. Brigitte

Sounds like a wonderful idea.! Note..the printer made errors in the 1st anthology. The author's name was not directly under the poets work.! Some names were actually printed on the very next page after the author's poem.!

I would think another anthology would be best. The first two were well done and are quite a pleasure to read. It is easier for me to pick up the books than go to all that bother finding poetry on the web. Not that I mind doing that though. A book is a better companion. :)

How does the anthology works? Would this included every piece of submission? It is only fair for those whose work are being accepted and print in the anthology that wanted to be purchased based on a personal option. I personally had sent in my piece for the anthology before but I never receive any reply back with the update of the status of my work of acceptance or denial. So, I am unsure about the proposal of this suggestion. Thank you

I think a Volume III would be great, but is it cost effective, are the previous ones getting maximum exposure or is it only PoetrySoup Members buying because they are published? I also think themed sections, Love, Romance, Loss, Inspirational, Humor, Nature and so on and perhaps shorter poems only so they fit on the one page. I also like the idea of a memoriam section. I also think to be fair, it should be just one or two poems per person including a small Bio. But that's just my opinion. I love reading the variety and would love to be involved again.
