The Death of Community Points

PoetrySoup will soon be doing away with Community Points. As most of you know, community points do not currently serve a purpose. A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away community points were going to be used for special website perks, but we have long since scrapped that idea. Anyway, if you no longer see the community point’s link on the Member’s page, you’ll know why.

Actually, I'll miss the list... I went to it to click on names... whose poems I hadn't read in a while... 200 names made it very handy...

Btw, totally unrelated, but I wonder, dear TPS, if you can please Please heed and indulge my typo eyes?? I don't know if you'd read my emails if I sent it to you via email? I know I brought your attention to a typo before too. I wonder if I am the only one bothered by it??? There are a couple of others that have been there for years now I believe. If one clicks on a contest-- right there, smack, it says: "Dealine" and if one clicks on "My Contest Entries" -- the first sentence you see below it has a couple of typos--"Below ae poems you have entered in Member Spnsored Poetry Contests." Please Please let this be my legacy. Hahaha, to be the one to have corrected you on this. Thank you kindly!

There's still a missing "d" in "deadline" when one clicks on a contest... but thank you for correcting the other typo :)

i'm a stickler for such, nikks and saw these as well.. but sometimes, i do have my share of errors as i really can't type, lol... huggs

lol Good for you, Nikko :) I have seen those mistakes but I haven't taken the time to email tps about them. I figure surely someone else is on it! lol Glad I was right... but I hope they'll fix them soon, it bothers me too.

Hmmm, ok, I wonder if might be the only one doing this, or one of the very few? For several years now, my goal is to lower my points. Doinnks. I actually have this sort of wee thrill in seeing my points go down, and see myself dropping from lists. Perhaps sort of like rewinding the mileage of a car :p....for some reason, I view points as a sort of gauge of how addicted I was to the Soup, esp contests before...although yep, ironically, I never did value those points, more like a meter for me, to scare me off to back off. Rest in peace, my addict meter :p.

In the case of fake accounts, I was kindly suggesting whether you could follow up on IP addresses, to determine whether a single IP address is being used to open up many fake accounts. In the end, suspicions will cease.....

Hopefully it will free up space for some new and exciting feature .. like a live poetry reading link ...I did go to that list from time to time to check out some of the poets that haven't been around in awile.

Please TPS, do away with ALL lists, they serve no purpose except self serving, ..they are neither indicators nor milestones,...if someone needs a number to make them happy...here's one you can pass on from me .." I hear by award a gazillion points" to the bearer of the saddest life.....Ian

From eight pages of poetry..I deleted three which were real scribbles..and hopelessly poor..Now I realize it affected community points : ).. Contests ..I hardly participated in any, because I prefer reading and writing without competing, but that ' s my silly mind again,so no points there ::)...But Hey I'm happy for having many unique comments points..At least that shows I supported my friends and really read into their work.: ). To be honest I dnt think I ll ever make any use of the community points. I do like the hundred new best poems ,and all time poems though...even if Im sure there are just as amazing poems not on the list. That's my opinion : )

Where do you see these things for all the members? Well , adieu to a list I saw now and then and never had a clue what it meant. But I sure enjoyed seeing the numbers growing!! Too bad I don't get coupons or something. I live for "good deals!!"
