Lending A Voice - Thank you Line! - Gary Radice's Blog

I'm a married 60 year old Brit who lives near Liverpool, UK.

I started writing poetry as a hobby after taking retirement from my role as a Registered Mental Health Nurse working in the field of Brain Injury Rehabilitation.

Themes of the seaside, railways and the naivety of childhood crop up often in my poems and I like to write (usually in rhyme) just what I see, no matter how trivial that may be.

Although some of my work is based on my own personal experiences, I try to focus on imagery and places in time that are identifiable to the reader as well.

I also enjoy 'weaving' stories through my work and occasionally put my own spin on the classics.

Other than at school, the only poems I have ever written are those that you can read here at Poetry Soup.

If you have the time to view and comment on any of my work here then I would really appreciate it. I'm always open to constructive criticism.

Thank you

Gary

Lending A Voice - Thank you Line!

Blog Posted:6/13/2021 2:07:00 PM

I sent a soupmail today to Line Gauthier asking if she could possibly recite a poem of mine on The Soup and she duly obliged. Her audio has now been added to the poem and I would just like to say a massive big thank you to her via this blog. It adds so much depth to the original text of the poem Miss Amelia Havisham's Garden Shed.

https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/miss_amelia_havishams_garden_shed_-_read_by_line_gauthier_1363210

I asked Line because I thought the audios she has added to her own poems have been excellent and ..well,..I don't like the sound of my own voice when it comes to poetry. :)

I've reposted the poem as a new poem - I hope nobody minds this - I just wanted people to hear Line's interpretation.

Are there any other examples of PS poets reading others' poems here on PS? If there are could you link them here please as I would love to read them. - Thanks.

Thank you again Line! My family and I couldn't be happier.

Gary

Always great Gary to welcome a 'convert' to the spoken verse experience. The ultimate is when the poet reads his/her own creation bringing the unique one-off interpretation.Let us know when you so do

You are very welcome, Gary. It was my pleasure. I hope more and more people record their poems, it's always special to hear poems read as the poet intended it. I read the comments below, thank you very much. I have made many PS friends who have been generous in their support over the years and was intending to offer to read them one poem of their choice...

Thanks for the link Brian. There'so much feeling put into the words using this style when reciting - it creates an atmosphere all of its own and draws listeners in. There's great skill in that. This is what I really like about Line's delivery. Cheers - Gary

Gary ,Line's voice quality recitation (at this paced tempo )compares well 'mono' one of the leading youtube exponents of this apex aspect of poetry.

I just listened to Line's reading of Gary's poem. I loved the poem when I first read it, but Line's voice is absolutely mesmerizing. Kudos to both of you!

So you pronounce your name as in Lyn, not Line, I was wondering about that. You'll probably get inundated with pleas to read more of other people's work. A lovely recital voice. Nice job and congrats to you both.

Brian / Suzette, that was fantastic. I have to be honest and say that when I first tried my hand at poetry the idea of poems being read aloud by the poet or anyone else didn't appeal. Not sure why. Just didn't. How 20 months at PS has changed that! I'm fascinated as to how others interpret works (via their comments) and now from others reciting (as with Line). Cheers - Gary
