Adding New Forms of Poetry: Our Policy
Blog Posted:6/22/2021 2:17:00 PM
We regularly receive requests to add new forms of poetry to PoetrySoup. Typically, these are forms recently created by our wonderful members. It is so good to see the creativity of our Soupers and we encourage you to keep it up.
PoetrySoup's policy for adding new forms of poetry is fairly simple. We only add new poetry forms after they become widely accepted. Usually, this includes the new form being in The Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics or having a Wikipedia page.
If you know of a new form that is not on PoetrySoup and you want it added, please email us with the Wikipedia page that describes the form. Thanks.
[addendum] Years ago, we used to add member forms but we started receiving too many requests and some of the suggested forms were just variations of an existing form, so we stopped allowing new forms. You'll still see those forms in our list. We didn't remove them.
If you've created a new form of poetry, please write an article about it. https://www.poetrysoup.com/member_area/articles/
