Arthur, it is nice to see you engaging The Beautiful People again. It is not the twisting & spinning that surprises me, but the number of their pawns that buy it, though a few have woken up to realize that the shower is ‘golden’.

Now Chris, is this a person you wish to hitch your wagon too? that says a lot right there, so far you have written mean posts on a woman's blogs and deleted them, this again is the mind set of a troll, Ruben has insulted and attacked many here, funny you all dont write poetry.

Hi Chris and Darren, You guys did a great thing for the new poets. So bravo to you guys for wanting to build community and reach out to the new poets. But all of this other negativity on this blog saddens me- Alexis

@Chris and Warren: Im sorry for the comments this "guy" made write. They're completely out of topic. Let me know if you want me to delete them, although I can't remove those written as replies. You can block me momentarily and they will be disappear.

: DD!! Hi, Chris (and Warren). I don't know why I click on this blog but Im LMAO! Look at our Tom!! Hilarious! @Jan: I don't like your remarks about blogs, it sounds "resented." Blogs are blogs, whether you like them or not, they're a way to express ourselves in a more "real" way. Generalizations are never good, you should know that. We're all different and we should be able to accept each other. For example: you might love to read blogs were every single comment states the same: happy b-day, while I prefer the Pub's meetings where we can talk about poetry (I dont remember seeing you in one of them, by the way) -->

I tried to nudge TPS into creating a video with one of those traveling arrows to REALLY show new members the ins and outs of Soup. It was a no go. My first and foremost thing to say to newbies is that Soup is a community that encourages artistic growth and that they should expect some comments may reflect true poetic discussion, words of encouragement, of course, but also suggestions on how their poetry can be improved. I've done this with newcomers and received many genuine "thanks!" And I don't mean 'wallop' them with a big ole ugly "if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen' crap. I mean a "I really like this about your poetry. Would you like to hear a suggestion I have?"

My biggest pet peeve here is the reply button on comments. Before that dumb thing, people HAD to go to you to talk to YOU. When they changed to the reply button, the replies like "thanks for your comment" were so many that they were crowding out the space in my emails, and I had to cancel notification by Soup of any comment or replies to comments at all. I just always come now directly to my inbox when I log on and I see all the comments I got from there. I rarely see replies people have made to me at THEIR poems so they are talking to the air. Sometimes I'll put replies to people's comments just for the fun of it, but not normally. I would prefer it be GONE. It downgrades participation

Great blog! Great idea. I think they should be informed on Soup etiquette! When I first got here...I was so excited that I had finally found a place to showcase my work that I tried to post as many poems as possible! i didn't know that could be frustrating for some people. I think it's good for newbies to know the "acceptable" number of poems to post a day. This has been discussed before, hence, the quotation marks. ;)

I agree with these points. But I can't stay here any more to say anything. Great idea for having others give their own feedback here.

Strictly tongue in cheek - I would advise them not to read the blogs!

Maybe we can start a mentor program where a few names can be given for questions on site use

I have noticed many new poets have trouble with choosing the correct form since many other sites don't require that information...Maybe on the submit poem page there can be a box to check if you are not sure of the form.

Re soupmail.I am not as young anymore..And becoming forgetful..I wish..We could be able to save past soupmail conversations...or have the choice of deleting it as we wish.Sometimes I forward a soupmail..and till the other replies..I forget what I asked...So that would be great too.Saying this Tps did work hard jn these eight yrs I ve been here..so many great changes have been done..but we can always improve.

there is really no substitute guys for new poets getting actively involved in the community. commenting on other's poems, visiting and commenting on blogs like this one, being open to constructive criticism. your suggestions above are in line with this and frankly, should be common sense. most who join up here are social media savvy and should already know these basics.
