A Little Political Help Here!

Hello Soupers, I have been trying to swim in the deep seas of politics for the past two weeks now yet as clearly expressed in the title of this blog, with no avail! My school has chosen me along with 18 other students to participate in the MUN (Model United Nations). For those of you who haven’t heard about the MUN before, it is basically a representation of the real UN. Students play the role of very serious “delegates” who engage in a long, three-day debate trying to find or even come up with solutions for the current, VERY tiring world issues. Every student must choose a country to represent and a committee to belong to. I have chosen Turkey as a country and “The Special and Decolonization Committee” as a committee J.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> Under this committee, there are two topics to be discussed.<o:p></o:p> 1-     Afghanistan/Pakistan border<o:p></o:p> 2-     Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> If any one of you has any knowledge upon these topics, I would be absolutely grateful if you'd share some of it with me. this is such a tricky subject,since,history itself,hasn't changed as much as we would like to believe....what or who hasn't changed is us,as humanbeings...Turkey,the old gateway,along with Jerusalem,were doorways of trade with the east and the west....globalization has opened these avenues of trade,but the "power"influences still remain in some degree,which in itself poses many challenges....the oil leases have all but expired for America in the middle east,which the "Getty's",earlier in the 19th century,didn't forsee such an element of need...what can we do in todays world without oil h-u-hhh ?!!....political economy versus social reform....appears as another David and Goliath story all over again....partly why,i don't get too activly involved,since the powers that be would rather kill what they don't understand as a threat....such a world...we would like to believe in the human species,eventho,we are still animalistic organisms.....i'll get in touch with you again soon....peace , jay
