Hey, everyone! I hope you're finding this beautiful fall weather inspiring. It is my favorite season, and I so miss the east coast with its sugar maples this time of year!
Now, to the contest. I know that most of you are too young to know about the musical 1776, but now that you;ve been informed it exists, get thee forthwith to a place where you can watch it. If you love musicals, you will adore this. It;s so well done, it doesn't even occur to you that that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin probably wouldn't have sung their thoughts to congress back then.
If you don't like musicals, that's OK too. The title of this contest is based on the song "The Egg" from that musical. The forementioned trio are arguing over what should be the national bird and why. Obviously, John Adams won in the musical, but I want to take a step backward and have YOU make a case for your favorite of the three birds mentioned to be our national bird.
Remember: eagles are not the noblest of birds--look it up on line]
doves don't do much of anything except represent peace--look online
turkeys are stupid--look online--they must have SOME redeeming qualities
Those who research their bird will do better in the contest than those who haven;t. For example, if you write in your poem that the eagle makes a beautiful echoing "Scree" sound, you would not do as well, since eagles do more of a "chirp." (I didn't believe this until I saw if for myself.)
To it! my fellow soupers! I look forward to your entries.
