Endless Night

She sighs and closes her eyes
For she knows the signs are right
The darkened skies
Signaling her endless night

She caught a brief moment
The sun shone through so bright
She doesn't know where the time went
But she has not the strength to fight

Her heart got lost among the clutter
Her love for him went so very deep
To her soul that was all aflutter
But the love was not hers to keep

She tried to hold it in her hands
But it burned the skin as she touched it
Though she could not understand
How her heart could so easily submit

She gave up who she was and all that she had
She tried to save her soul
Yet in the end her love drove her mad
And her heart, once fiery, was now cold.

She sighed and closed her eyes
For she knew the signs were right
The darkened skies
Signaled her endless night.
