Empress Queen

Empress Queen

The first hit
like a bullet through the eye
standing tall
shoulders back
chin high
still
swallow
breathe
swallow
blink
calms her mind
allowing the words to penetrate
some just drift away
can't take them in
holds herself
silently calling her inner woman
professional to the end
they cannot see anything but strength
so strong in this her vulnerability
she disempowers them with it
empowers all the small people
such grace
holding your orb
nothing can touch you
You are Empress Queen.

A Taste of Addiction

I got a taste for you
an addiction really
like the sweet bitterness
of salted caramel
even though you burned me
as whiskey on the throat
I wanted you
almost needed your attention
like the pain of the self-harmer
yet I knew
you were destruction
still longing for your poison
willing it to run though my veins
so I could feel
like I mattered

This Troubled Road

Oh! My brother
I’ll walk with you on this troubled road
yet hear the news with agitation
and I would say stand firm
keep hold
we will not buckle
nor will we fold

The path is long
and dusty smotes will suck
all love and care from your breast
but we’ll be firm and standing strong
we will smite the silent foe

Then gently
as a flame that flickers
in the cold and dark of night
we will see life’s new path glisten
and follow it with all our might

And on that path I’ll tread beside you
hand in hand with purpose clear
we will reach that gleaming treasure
and once again will conquer fear

Addicted

Some days it feels like I am addicted
to the sweet smelling nectar of sorrow
tears stream down like rivulets of rain
from the leaves of my being
gathering in a pool at my feet
I watch in the silence of the morning
as the joy and freedom
the laughter and childlike thrill of life
melt into the puddle
yet I so wish I could feel the happiness
that once was there
where did it go
what have I become
a pitiful addict of suffering
loss and pain
