This Troubled Road

Oh! My brother
I’ll walk with you on this troubled road
yet hear the news with agitation
and I would say stand firm
keep hold
we will not buckle
nor will we fold

The path is long
and dusty smotes will suck
all love and care from your breast
but we’ll be firm and standing strong
we will smite the silent foe

Then gently
as a flame that flickers
in the cold and dark of night
we will see life’s new path glisten
and follow it with all our might

And on that path I’ll tread beside you
hand in hand with purpose clear
we will reach that gleaming treasure
and once again will conquer fear
