Like the Sun, Like the Sky

Eyes as blue as the cloudless sky,
Hair as dark as a starless night,
Jaw as sharp as a shining blade,
And face as smooth as the wet sand on the beach
With a voice as warm as the sun
On a hot summer's day

All of these aspects of Mr-Blue-Eyed-Monster
Are great,
But those are nothing more than his outer image

Have you ever seen the boyish grin
That formed when he was happy?
Or the way his eyes would sparkle
When he spoke of something he loved?
How about the way he stutters when he's nervous
And blushes when he's said something dumb
Or just plain shy?

You've never cared for his insecurities
You only pointed them out.
You've never seen him tremble at the sound of thunder,
Or cry when Dobby died.
You've never seen him bite his lip
When he's afraid he's upset you
Or how he fiddled with his hands when he asked you out

You've never heard him fumble over words
Or trip more times than you could count
Because he's simply too nervous for the first date

You've never seen how his eyes shine
Under the fireworks at midnight
On New Year's Day

You wouldn't know that he asks for permission
Every time he wants a kiss
Or how he carries mistletoe
Every single Christmas
So that he won't need to ask for a kiss that day.

How he wears mismatched socks
Because he always loses the other one to a pair
Or how he promises to never lose you the way he loses them
-Because he's too damn cheesy.

You've never heard him complain about
The expectations he has to reach or
How he's worried for his marks

You've never seen how
He messes up he's hair
And mutters incoherently
In foreign languages,
Worried that he'll disappoint everyone
Yet again

You've never heard how he laughs
At his own little jokes
And calls them brilliant
Even though they're lame

All you've cared about was
Hot-Blue-Eyed-Boy
And whether he's good in bed

You haven't considered that he's keeping that
For his special someone
Because all you see
Is another good looking boy
So you automatically think that he must be like other boys.

Well, he's not.

You haven't considered that
There's more to him than
His voice like the sun,
And eyes like the sky

He's not just another boy.
No two people are the same
- Or so the Blue-Eyed-Monster has taught me.

Strong For Too Long

You've been sitting in the dark
Wondering for so long.

It's been forever
Since you started feeling so alone
Drowned by the voices
And haunted by the demons

A happy facade
Is all it took
To have others believe you were fine

You couldn't look so sad
If your job was to be so happy
To have the fans worry
Was the last thing you wanted

You were caughdtt in the nothingness
And your lyrics said it all
Your voice screamed out
Through the meanings behind the words
And through the music videos

But the thing is
You've been fighting on for so long
All the pressure they've brought upon you
All the words of reassurance
That never did anything
But add to it all

You've battled through depression
And your words; the lyrics
Were things you wanted said to you

All you wanted
Was to be told you worked hard
To be told you did well
You wanted others to notice

And you never really hid it.
You never saw the point
You always showed it because you believed
There was no point
In being fake happy three hundred and sixty-five days a year

You believed that people should know you
For who you were
You shouldn't be showing off a fake you
Because it got tiring

You were a role model and inspiration to many
You were a brother, a colleague, a friend and one of the best people to walk this earth.

Many will miss you
Many will remember you
But nobody will forget you
And the impact you've left
Not only on your group
But on the world

You were kind
And funny
And gentle
And weird
You were all or nothing
And that's what we loved

You were a bright soul
That changed many
Your voice was a voice others went to
When seeking reassurance, hope, happiness, cheering up and when they just needed to escape when they just felt numb
You were our go to
When things got tough

Your voice was something special
But you were something more

You've held on for so long
You've been strong for too long
And now, today, 18th of December 2017
You've left the world

But you've changed us too
You've opened our minds
And our hearts
And hopefully the world's too.

Thank you for existing, Kim Jonghyun and may you rest in peace.

[ A poem dedicated to Kim Jonghyun, a Korean singer from the group SHINee. May he rest in peace and may his fellow members and family cope well. They are in many's prayers.]

In the Rain

On a day
Like any other,
I found him
In the rain.

Someone asked
What on earth
He was doing,
But he only smiled.

Tilting his head back
And opening his arms,
He welcomed the rain
Like nobody else.

I approached him
With hesitancy
As they told me
He’s crazy.

He lowered his head
To carefully regard me,
Stretched out a hand
And pulled me along.

Together,
We danced in the rain.

Dance With the Devil In the Moonlight

Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
Have you seen the way the light shines on him?
Or the way he looks so carefree
With a smile that puts the sun to shame
How he holds out a gloved hand
And the confidence in him sparks like flames
How he is so sure of himself
Even when the light begins to dim.
Dancing with him in the moonlight,
His eyes do not appear as they would in broad day
His eyes become lighter
And his smile brighter
And for a moment, you forget he's the devil
Because he almost seems human
And it's more magical
Than you could ever imagine

Capture the Moment

We all find ways
to cherish a moment,
the ones we wish
would last forever.

Some of us
snap photos.
A camera in our faces
every chance we can.
'For the memories'
some will say,
as they lay out albums,
photo string lights,
and frames
that line
every inch of wall,
and table
until it's a museum
in your house.

Others will write
as the words
come to them.
Notebooks,
diaries,
a pen and paper.
Words fill the page,
a record of the memories
that once were forgotten;
that others can't recall.

People will record
their voices
that tell the stories
like verbal diary entries.
Their words take them back
to a moment they forgot,
and tears find their face
as their heart aches
in fondness.

Videos will be taken
for everything you do;
birthdays, parties,
outings, and clubs.
You'll find the times
you laughed so hard
or tripped over your own feet.
The moment you met
someone who changed
your entire life.
Put it altogether,
and you find a documentary
capturing the moments
you wanted to hold on to.

A collection
of drawings
in their files
and sketchbooks.
Every person they've met,
all the ones that have left.
Moments that meant
the world to them.
Small, kind actions
they never expected.
Whatever made
their chest feel warm.

That person that posts
every photo they take;
every video,
and view,
and person they've met.
Quotes and books and music
given to them
by others.
The one that uploads
something every day
is actually creating
their online memory book.

We often wonder
what is the best way
to keep a moment
we don't want to end.

Times our hearts
were fond
and our smiles so wide
as happiness consumed us,
or little things
that meant nothing to them
and everything to us.

How do we keep
that moment
forever?

We capture it
however the moment allows.
In pictures,
writing, recording,
drawing,
and posting.

We capture the moment
so that it will live on
for as long as we want.

However it's done,
the moment is now
forever alive
in us
and anyone
we choose to share it with.

Sunshine

She is the taste
Of sunshine after rain.
An embodiment of hope
Through the dreariest days.

Warm healing energy
And a calm golden soul.
Gentle and soft
Highlighting the bright
Of her ever beaming smile.

She reminds you of childhood
And innocent trust.
Her very being
Tells you its okay.

Be yourself.
Do what you want.
She’s your biggest cheerleader
Through every effort you make.

She is sunshine
In her optimistic ways
Shining through your rain
In your pessimistic thinking.

She is there
Whenever you need her to be.

She is your reminder
That not all is lost
In this darkening world.

I'M Sorry

I'm sorry I'm not perfect
That I mess up and make mistakes
I'm sorry that I don't care
I'm sorry that you hate me
For how much I've changed
From all the pain that you have caused me
I'm sorry that I lied; I do care
And I'm sorry that I let you get to me

I'm sorry I never told you how I feel
How awkward it was alone with you
And how I could never find my voice
I'm sorry that I'm too nice, too forgiving as you've said
I'm sorry that you hate me for not forgiving you
After that night you made me break down
When you claimed you found my breaking point; something you didn't have

I'm sorry I gave you the power to hurt me
Which you always did
And even when I thought you didn't, you did know
I'm sorry your feelings were the only important things at the end of the day
And that you would hurt others just to hurt me
I'm sorry that you lied and made me doubt
Everything and everyone

I'm sorry I wasn't there for you
Only because you always pushed me away
I'm sorry for disappointing you; for apologizing
Even though you hated it

Most of all, I'm not sorry we're no longer friends
Just sorry I never said goodbye

If He Wanted To

If he wanted to,
He would.
At least
That’s what everyone says.

You spend your time
Defending someone
Who never tries
And is never there.

You’re on your knees,
Begging
And pleading
That he visit your house
(It’s what your parents want.)

There’s hope that he will,
But it’s the baseless kind.
There’s no proof that he will,
None that you can find.

He never shows up
To the first birthday he’s with you.
He does last minute plans
And keeps you on edge.

He’s all talk and promise
Which in time you’ll learn
Should never be heard
Because he’ll forget again later.

He tells you that you’ll
Be seeing the new marvel movie.
‘Together’,
He adds, and you smile like crazy.

He goes to the movie,
Alone with his friends.
He’s upset when you go,
With one of your own.

Anger controls him
When you’re with other people,
Jealousy consuming him,
Thinking you’ll leave.

He talks big,
But his vision is small.
He’s all lies
Masked as pretty promises.

He never treated you right,
Not the way you deserved.
You settled for less,
When you should have had more.

His friend took you out
On little dates.
‘Boyfriend by proxy’,
Doing all he should have.
And of course,
He gets mad at that.

He half asses your time,
When you’re giving him every second
And he’s giving you none.
Spends every weekend out,
And it’s never with you.

Then the tables turn
And he’s always in,
Getting upset
When you’re going somewhere.

He becomes controlling,
In a way you don’t see
Because you love him,
You’re blind to all that he is.

He’s nothing like
The person you met,
Which isn’t bad
But it’s not any better.

He doesn’t come visit
Unless it’s in luxury,
Not that he has the funds
To get him that way.

It’s never been you,
But it’s always been him.
When you look back on it now,
You realize what it is.

If he wanted to,
He would.
How true that is.
It just goes to show
He never did,
So did he ever want to?
(No, he did not.)

In Darkness

When the darkness came
And the light faded

It was then when she sat
With her head in the clouds
And her heart anchoring to the ground

It was then that she felt
More pain than ever before
And when she cried
Tears that nobody saw

It was then that she recalled
All the people that left
And the ones who hurt her
And helped her
And guided her
And stayed

It was when the clock struck twelve
When she missed them the most
And when she was more thankful
Than ever before

It was when the darkness came
And the light faded
When she felt more than she ever felt before

To Be Heard

It's not when the world is shouting
When it's loud and you can't hear a thing
It's when the world is quiet
And all you hear is silence

It's not when the earth is trembling
And you don't know where you're going
It's when the earth is still
And you've finally found the path

It's not when you're crying
And you can't seem to stop
It's when you're laughing
And you just want to stop

It's not when you're in pain
And you wish it could go away
It's when you're calm
And you await the on coming storms

It's not when you're exhausted
And can't keep your eyes open
It's when you're wide awake
And can't seem to sleep

When your mind is busy
And your heart is aching
When your chest is paining
And your eyes are tearing
When your mouth is moving
But nothing comes out

That is when we want
To hear and
To be heard
