Changing of the Guard

Only God can create this scene
The frosted grass was once so green
Making a mist over the yard
Change of seasons the grass it ‘tween

The sun warmed and started to glean
Like a farmer plucks his last bean
With warmth and green grass summer starred
Only God…

Winter settles in like a queen
Offers peaceful change so serene
The protective summertime guard
Gives way to winter with regard
Knowing it will again be seen
Only God…

Whiskey

The burn of whiskey
Cannot put out the flames of
Your forgotten love

Flowers

Flowers - she knows will always die
She never lets them see her cry.
Unnatural smile and hot tea
Obviously - she’s so happy
Watering them when they aren’t dry

Singing to them a lullaby
More water, water; never dry
Water, songs – never unhappy
Flowers – she knows

Loving too harshly – can’t deny
The water is her secret lie
Pretending she’s actually free
Too proud and scared to yell her plea
But can’t live without being high
Flowers – she knows

Monster

Childhood innocence quickly dies
when monsters show their lying eyes.
Love doesn't play a part in this game
she is merely a pawn in his shame.
The monster devours her hot tears;

He gains a vicious strength from her fears.
The shame will last for several years.
She believes she has herself to blame.
Childhood innocence quickly dies.

She quietly covers her face and cries;
dreaming of a world with blue skies.
She recoils when he whispers her name.
She's so young with a delicate frame.
The monster is her sad demise,
Childhood innocence quickly dies.
