Catherine J. Broussard Poem
Eyes open mine since birth.
An old soul, seeing the world twice.
My mother's smile her mother's smile;
never changes, sadness overwhelms her face, still.
The sun comes, more days than before, but all too familiar.
Different time, but not different faces.
Words are spoken; when mouths were closed;
Same words; same people.
Some may listen, but do they hear?
Many voices, many words to remember.
I been here before, the same, but a faint difference.
You listen when I speak, I listen when you speak.
Ears are opening, faintly hearing.
Slowly are opening mine eyes since birth.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
Be amazed by your strength,
it was given to you before your name was spoken.
Your strength is adored by many;
those who knew of your arrival.
They waited, patiently, knowing you are their merit.
Humble, mighty people who paved your way.
You stand on their shoulders, forever looking high.
Never turning back, only to regain their strength.
They walk with you; still, hold your head high,
for many are aimed to follow.
Steady your pace, walk on their green earth.
Know their steps, and unearth unturned stones, lessons are to be learned.
Be amazed by your strength;
It was given to you before your name was spoken.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
EMBRACE
Embrace your past; learning from each mistake;
unturned stones are your hopes.
Cherish your faults, they are what make you strong.
Believe in you; stand tall as the mighty Oak.
Never falling, holding the earth's secrets.
Listen, follow the words of your soul, their souls,
for they will never forsake you.
Be bold, you are their blessing;
they knew.
See your heart; find them; show their proudness on your face.
Speak your truths; theirs truths;
never forsaking; only EMBRACING.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
I look to you, one of many.
You are my past, now my present.
With me still, surrounding me always;
saying; stay steadfast!
Bend your knees when hope is gone.
Cry out HIS Name when you are unlearn.
I listen, as you speaks HIS truths.
I follow; knowing you've been here.
Show me your ways; I need to know.
Cast down your wisdom; I want to learn.
Stay with me; as always.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
Breathe, celebrate our ways; never forget them.
Rejoice in the power of our foremother, forefather.
Puissance in each footstep.
Celebrate their words; sing loud, spirited.
Sing to the moon which they saw.
Sing to the stars which were in their eyes.
Rejoice in every step, tap the earth; wake up old souls!
Let them know that we are here; willing.
Dance, laugh; tell them that you will never stop;
never stop until we dance, laugh and shout together.
Always; still today; under HIS Eyes, never parted, never will.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
I dream of blue waters steady under my feet; trouble water comes often.
My feet are planted firmly, I will never cease.
At times I fall to the bottom, only for a while.
Waves strike, one way or the other, never losing my way.
I don't know where the waves will take me; yet home is always in my sight.
I have visions of flying high, high as it takes me.
Belonging to myself, all is left behind.
I know that trouble will not escape me, it's always near.
I stand fixed, a beam of light strikes me; I only feel its strength.
Free, even if I lose my way, I will not be lost.
Oh! What great silence I hear.
Words are not spoken; my soul hears what it hears.
Now, I am awake, but only to dream of blue waters.
Steady under my feet.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
Dignity comes from within.
Given to us by them, the Ones who knew.
The Ones who came before us.
Back breaking, heart aching, sturdy ones,
mouth close; soul screaming.
The ones who carried all which was.
Dignity; my mother, your mother, my father, your father.
Born with it; never beaten out.
Dignity consoles as my bruised blacken knees hit the floor.
It remains in the palm of my hands when it's too hard to bear.
Dignity, my birth right; it settled upon my first breath,
as my eyes opened.
It's never taken lightly; always protected.
Stand tall on the backs of many, much is to be learned.
Repay them, for much is owed.
Stand in Dignity, for they are watching.
Dignity, given to us by them, never beaten out.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
You see me by the sunlight, I am never out of sight.
I dream, the same dream you dream.
I know your hopes; I was there.
I kept them for you, knowing that you will need them.
I remember your ways in each morning,
looking for blessings in the passing day.
I hear you say "thank you, my weary bones need rest".
You rested only to regain your strength for another day.
You look for me, you see me again by the sunlight;
I am never out of sight.

Catherine J. Broussard Poem
Remember the dark days; through the sun was bright.
Remember the hunger in your stomach, but a beat in your step.
Remember the aches and pain, but you endured another day.
Remember, the heartache being childless, yet you birthed eight children.
Remember, all you endured, yet, you are still here; in me.
Remember your sacrifices; yet, you remained humble.
Remember HIM because HE has not forgotten you, for I am here;
the very essence of you.
