Memorial Day Patriot's Blood and His

The storm was wildest when
He walked on water
The vines were at their greenest
He turned water into wine
For faithfulness, union and reunion

When men would forsake all of God
He will return for His Beloved
Who is He? An open, unfolding mystery
Because He loved so much He bled and bled
For His country and Family

Poetry of Love

Many march into a new month
Themes as old as winters warmth -
Love that is, no matter the weather
Poets write to heal, feel, reveal other
Ways to taste words, kiss reality
"Witnessing" not judging, that's poetry

I Love America, Differently, In Fuller History

I
The Servants of Free Men on the Mayflower
Knew "abundant life" in Jesus, Great Savior
Two servants, too, rose up to sign The US Constitution
Lover of His Morals, Binder of America's First Bible, Jefferson
Perhaps, long before, some foundations cast by Tom Paine & William Penn

II
Then there is Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island
Who paid Native Americans for Providence, new way to get land?
More fortunate than Minister Anne Hutchinson, foe of New England
Because she read the Bible, taught it, and well ... thus expelled
Yet more fortunate than Mary Dyer, Quaker, now Watch at Boston Common

III
Smaller folk prayed for A Great Awakening. It came. Publicist: Ben Franklin
Preachers in the trenches, before two Billys: Charles Finney & Our Theologian
None other than Jonathan Edwards; when he died, on that occasion
His wife wrote her daughter: we weep but thank LORD he was our relation!

IV
The idea of America ... inimitable; Einstein came as Refugee of Distinction
And veterans I'm blessed to know, ennobled by trials and tribulation
We lost Lewis Reynolds this year; a Marine and Man of many an Invention
Your simple research will reveal we owe much to such Fighters For Freedom
And in my church: Walter Ogden, Dick (Tex) Pentecost, Russell Coleman

V
Yes, we may criticize its imperfection ... often without paying a price
There was the bad history with Indians - broken treaties and cowardice -
Yet John Rolfe did marry Pocohontas, many now claim them Ancestors
And slavery of Africans was brutish, but Lincoln busted free of old fears
As did Noble Roosevelt, Carter, & Obama ... celebrate USA in Living Colors

(c) Deo. Happy Birthday America; God empower the peoples and every level of Leadership to fulfill the Great Destiny of America. After all, Gandhi's great granddaughter, Uma, says: "Try to share; you'll have to one way or another."

II
poets plow semi-aridity
with integrity
among words

III
sometimes silent, oft not

Zen obedience

Puppy Love At 55: Dedicated To Lady L

Puppy Love at 55 When I am wise, I’ll turn to puppy love With generous doses of truth and innocence, almost no shame … “Her be my gal!” Or “Me gonna marry him, so you jus’ shove!” Sound adorable. Singing, “He is mine. I am his. Gonna get married, take his name.” Gone the days of horse and carriage … some sensuous songs, also silent … At this moment I am not wise, merely older, aged fifty-five; I make amends, enjoy each tomado-love and each new accent; Aware of so much pain, woundings, the living-but-barely-alive So I recall how puppy love felt like fresh air, sunshine, pure We thought the best of belle or beau Time never existed. No bills, diapers, nothing to insure Slobbery kisses on ears, eyes, but unashamed, secure … When I turned a certain age; not so young and not so pure I thought marriage was right: seemed the way to secure Each other in love’s embrace for children, a better future … No regrets! But I gaze at a happy marriage in old pics now. So I say this to all poets, painters, quaint artists, saints and sinners: Start early with puppy love, and never give up on it; Why discuss doubling household incomes, becoming millionaires For such talk puts dollar signs where love was beautifully reflected! The children may yet teach us the ways of innocence But that is the hardest job today: among adult gadgets, to remain puppies That lick, slobber, miss the lips and kiss the eyes or chins And yet without shame, forgetting forbidden fruit, unblinking eyes - (Asking questions about hair, skin, color … hugs galore, even for the different) But as to whether I advocate divorce, May I plead the Fifth Amendment?

Adding Limerick: From Reply To April 2 Jan Allison's Wee Man

But Jan, is this a Limerick trick?
Your family, truly, has no Dick and no Rick ...
I could have sworn
Since I, too, had been born
my family had to have had one Mr. Dick!

(c)Deo.I could not bring myself to declare it as clearly last week. Now Good Friday gives way to naughty Saturday ... have at it. Shalom.Smile: Jesus is not a prude, but He does have standards (No adultery, for one. Have limericks though)

I Love Even When I Have Lost: Loving What Is

I
Did I tell you my poem on the urge to write was lost?
Did we talk about meeting Jesus in the Gospels, seeing His heart?
For days now, I’ve been unable to post
Yet, God has been the same, healing Pastor Ray Kingrea’s palate
After surgery to remove a cyst, and reconstruct sinus “bones”
Yet tonight we did our joint Church presentation, “Culture & Truth”
While globally, He is turning tides of war, to save, to love everyone

II
My LORD is beyond Bible & biography, not a God bent on being Missionary
To destroy every faith and culture that does not follow The Way
Jesus died so that he would have a big family
Multitudinous, multi-colored, varied-skinned sinners turned siblings
To the delight of Abba-Father’s heart, who never forgot Adam
Out of whom He took a rib, and made Eve, the one wife, First Woman
Ever wanting to make us complete, with Helpmate, Glorious Good Father
I smile as I look at the clock, know I must awake at 6, to worship together
With hundreds of children you adore, paid the highest price to save
I fail to do my part, to share your heart, from Mountaintops of Wonder

Past

The Past

In a dream, I found this tale -
Memories are water in a pail
We pick the pail each time we move -
Water spills (yet we repeat): pain, joy, love

Jai Hind Happy 70th Birthday To India

Mother India

Each August 15th since 1947, a day of expectant waiting –
Either terror from India’s enemies and frenemies
Or the terror of weather, some natural happening
Or holiday hazards, even hospital tragedies …

This year, 2017, has India and Israel in alliance
Culture and history connects these ancient folk
Different, yet similar, even in religious compliance:
Ritual purity, Hindu and Jew, avoiding beef or pork

For generations now, we have been South Africans But grandparents loved the movies, famed Bollywood - And we learned more of music from these films Names like Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Kanna, plus Shah Rukh The classic movie, “Mother India” – with hard times With village life, and then those famines Family sacrifice, especially from Mothers divine Sad songs tug those chords across miles and times So now, this August, we say Happy Birthday: Jai Hind And in sibling magnanimity, Bless Pakistan too: Politics and language, love and hate, led to partition Moving on, we seek Shanthi and Shalom, Salaam and Truth Poor India, rising India, nation of every contradiction You are still worth admiring, both kurtha tops and sari Cool cottons and silks for export, along with technicians … Those deep religious roots siphon truths told by Mahatma Gandhi ....
