Morning Cues

A dapper morning awaits
         as I gaze out
        to an awakening
       steeped in conviviality
         so palpable in glow of
            leaves bathed anew
              radiant in glory
             Glistening crisp
              blades of grass
         razor edged sharp
           deftly cut through
            weeds of gloom
      Aromas soaked in mirth
         envelope landscape
               From my soul
             infused with joy
             escapes a sigh
             embraced avidly
           by bountiful breeze
the lines between us blur slowly
         as it subsumes me
        And I cease to be
          my spirit merged
              with universe...

Scribble of a Child

The Dancing Nymph

She is the sylphic stream
     and the flow spinning
        her sequined sarong
    through gleaming fields
           as she weaves
           endless reveries
           nebulous and lithe
            ripples leaves
           with her rhythmic
            untamed grace
       omnipresent and fluid
         diffused in ambience
            joyful teasing
                pulse that
                glitters in
               silver stars
                 she is the
             sanguine song
                that lights
             a doting heart

A Dream City

A heritage resplendent in culture and crafts
Where monuments rub shoulders with swank malls
Enticing blend of old and new
Lucknow my town always enthralls

Values well enshrined so deep within
Greets with a warmth endearing
A city with a global vision
Boasts of a legacy alluring

An array of exquisite creations
Their splendour holds us spell bound
Dreams woven into yards of fabric
A magnificence that does astound

Succulent kebabs relished by all
Medley of age old secret recipes
Sizzling in congested lanes
Take pride of place in grand feasts

Tourists find it hard to part
Leave behind their piece of heart;
Taste and grace, or class , cuisine
City of Nawabs reigns supreme.

Breeze

Breeze
A whiff of zephyr blows across the trees
Swirls softly, upbeat, so salubrious
It whispers Spring, heralding gentle breeze
See budding blooms lift up heads, curious!

Evanascent, pristine breeze swing this way
Our flesh and soul both crave your soothing touch
Each pore is thirsty, seeks your playful sway.
Let us sniff in your joyful dulcet gush

We know that hot winds shall take over soon
With rising mercury distress will soar
Cocooned indoors shall gasp in stifling noon
perturbed the blaze may scorch us to the core

Help us indulge in moments, rare so fine
Your fragrance soaking in, placate us so
That basking in your blissful scents divine
Surrender to your kind refreshing flow

The eagerly awaited invigorating North Indian spring with its cool breeze is way too short lived , giving in soon to a raging summer with hot dusty winds.

An Immortal Legacy

An immortal legacy
None is immortal all destined to die
the humble mason or the wisest king
be it those winged creatures that soar humming
one day all will perish under the sky
Yet there may be much more than strikes the eye
whispering melodies resurge to sing
trail of shadows persistent lingering
enshrined in sobs interlaced with that sigh
Does one truly transcend to high heaven
Or merely swap a realm for another
Yesteryear's dad now lives in the grandson
to reweave reveries thrown asunder
As kindred souls club forged anew as one
Life immortalised through gracious venture

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

. Shyly the tender shoots
. Aspired to reach the skies
. Each leaflet uncurling slowly
        To hum its unsaid fondest story;
Some brought smiles all around
A few left us with moist eyes...

Song of the Spirit

SONG OF THE SPIRIT
Ridden on a bed
Barely able to moan
Can't move a finger
Or let out a groan
I sense some footsteps
Inching towards me
Must be the doc bless him
To relieve my agony
Lying on my sore back
For almost an eternity
Each muscle stiff
Crying for relief
Debilitated devastated
Wrapped up in grief
Yet, this spirit
Deep inside me
Just a speck
A tiny fleck
Wilful stubborn
Refuses to succumb
Irrepressible incandescent
Yearns for a joyous outcome
Listen carefully
Hear it cry
'Fear not adversity
Never say die'

This poem attempts to explore the spirit of the terminally ill patients many of them lying in a vegetative state and for whom passive euthanasia is advocated by a sizeable section of society as the only remedy.

A Torrential Downpour

Cascading in a rush
With a vociferous gush
Big drops on the crown
Poured steadfastly down
Amidst lightening and storm
And a loud thunderous sound
Playful restless
With a mischievous step
Banging at the door
Of her little head
 A frenzied lot
Of deafening knocks
Raring roaring
Persistent, non stop...
Deftly she caught some
Coalesced them into a poem.

Writers note
This poem, ( title changed) incidently my first submission at poetry soup last year, signifies the surge of words, a metaphoric downpour engulfing the mind of a poet , deafening in their intensity. The poet's creative skills weave out a poem from this divine gift, rapping at the doors.
