You Are Who You Are, Let It Shine

My dear friend, the flaws that you think you have, no one else sees.
It’s what’s on the inside that truly projects who you are.
They only see you for the person who you want to be.
Let that person shine through like the brightest of all stars.

Goodness Comes From Within

Why is it so hard for some to have self control?
All you have to do is just have a little discipline.
It’s a state of mind you should never have to be told.
It’s based on strength of character that comes from within.

We’re all born with an inherent sense of right and wrong,
Whether into a family of the rich or the poor.
Someone with bad intentions always sings the same old song.
They use the excuse that they were never shown an open door.

No one ever said that life was easy or even fair,
But it’s up to you as an individual to see,
That everyone has their own demons and cross to bear,
And you’re the only one that can set yourself free.

No matter who you are or where you come from,
Or whether you believe in God or something else,
You can always choose to do something good for someone,
And know in your heart that goodness begins with yourself.

Enough, Already

Collaboration with Marcello Eans

Enough, Already!

Seriously people, when is enough… enough?
For too many of you, the answer is never.
How can a million a game be living in the rough?
Do you really want us to think that all of you suffer?

How many cars or houses do you really need?
Are you aware of the hunger problems in the world?
With what you get paid, there are millions you could feed.
Open your hearts (and wallets) to all those boys and girls.

Enough, Already!

I’m a committed employee devoted to your company,
Work 8 hours plus in a day, what more do you want from me?
Off days are scheduled, yet rarely taken.
I must 86 my agenda and the plans I’m makin’.

Medical insurance is a myth, vacation pay is a rumor.
I stare into the distance, reflect on the days of my sense of humor.
Truly, I ask myself, “Does this guy really deserve me?”

Enough, Already!

I come home from work after a long, hard day,
Hoping for some peace and quiet and maybe a little love.
Instead, “Where have you been?!?!” is all you have to say.
Our relationship should be more than what it’s made up of.

You constantly nag me to say how I feel about you,
But you never trust what I say when I hold you near.
Enough, already! There’s only so much I can do.
It’s time for me to go. There’s nothing more I want to hear.

When I Was Young

There was a time in my life when I thought I knew it all.
I was so sure that there was nothing more for me to learn.
I was bound to land on my feet and I would rarely fall.
I knew better than to cross a bridge, and then let it burn.

As a kid, everything would come so easily to me.
School was just a place I would go to be with my friends.
I was never worried about what my future might be.
I knew that whatever I chose, I’d be happy in the end.

Now that I’m older, I realize that there’s much more to life,
And I’m able to see the world through much clearer eyes.
Someday, I know that I will make a wonderful wife,
But for now, fifth grade is over, and it’s on to Junior High.

Sacrifice

As I look at the pictures of my unborn son,
I can’t help but feel guilty that I’ll miss his birth.
We have two other children, this is our last one.
I love them all equally, for everything they’re worth.

I’m in the military and have always been prepared
For the chance to serve my country and do my job.
I’ve never left my family, so we’re a little scared.
As we say our goodbyes, we try hard not to sob.

I grab my bags and gear, board the plane, and fly away.
It’s a very long flight, which gives me time to ponder.
As I sit here and think of all the things I wanted to say,
I remember, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

Nobody likes the idea of going off to fight in a war,
But that’s the nature of the world in times like this.
There’s always going to be a good cause to fight for,
Like banding together against bad people that exist.

We battle all day against an enemy that’s got nothing to lose,
Who shoot at us with anger, not caring who they kill.
We fight for everything that’s good because we choose
To help rid the world of evil men and their murderous will.

I’ve missed my family and thought of them every day.
I’ve carried their pictures with me no matter where I’d go.
As I lie here dying, I pray for my wife who’s so far away.
I think about my unborn son and a father he’ll never know.

It’s been years since I’ve passed away and I miss my wife.
From above, I’ve watched my son grow into a fine young man.
He placed a plaque at my grave that was the motto of my life.
This is what he wrote; may it help others to understand.

A Soldier’s duty is to protect the innocent and their rights.
Lady Liberty is our backbone and strength, we fight for her.
*”Whether you agree or disagree with the wars we fight,
Since you can use your freedom to protest, thank a Soldier.”

*Anonymous quote

No Title, Yet - 48

As I stand here among such beauty covered in white,
I am thankful to God for creating such a place.
The wisps of clouds and the snow glistening in the light
Are a gift from God to the entire human race.

I am thankful to God for the people in my life,
For sending me a husband and wonderful children.
What I have learned from being a mother and a wife
Is that miracles do happen time and time again.

No Title, Yet - 78

With the grass so green
And the sky so blue
And the air so clean
With all that is new

It’s hard to believe
How it all started;
Worlds were conceived
And seas were parted.

It’s the little things
That we always see;
The joy it all brings
That sets our hearts free.

Is Earth all alone
In a place so vast,
With so much unknown
And a hidden past?

There is much to find
In the stars above.
We need open minds
And a lot of love.

Someday, we will know
How we came to be.
Then we can let go
And really be free.

Needless Jealousy

You always worry that I’m not faithful to our love,
Even though I’ve given you no reason to feel that way.
My feelings for you are as certain as the stars above.
So, as long as you want me around, I’m here to stay.

It seems silly to me that you think I’m always cheating.
I ask you to come along, but you say, “No, it’s alright.”
It’s sad you think I would have an affair that’s fleeting,
And that you feel you have to keep me within your sight.

If you distrust me so much to accuse me of such things,
Then why would you stay in this relationship so long?
I would think you’d want a change, whatever it brings,
And pack up your bags (and baggage) and move along.

It may be that you can’t leave because you worry so much,
From a past of such horror, that you won’t let it go.
You must realize by now that you need not fear my touch,
And that for us to work out, we may have to take it slow.

I want you to be a part of my life, my family, my friends,
But you insist on keeping yourself separate from us all.
I wish you’d come out of your shell and make amends
With the people you’ve hurt; a gesture ever so small.

It’s been over two years and you’ve made no changes yet.
I can no longer stay if you’re unable to let me in.
I have to live my life as it was before we met,
And you need to get over the past that lives within.

One day you’ll look back upon this and understand,
This had to be goodbye to a love that was never meant to be.
Who knows, someday, as you walk alone not holding my hand,
You’ll realize that to be a couple, there’s no place for jealousy.

Life In the Mountains - Title By Steve Miller

I was in awe of the early morning sky
When I was driving home late the other night.
The stars hung low enough to touch as I drove by
And the moon was shining amazingly bright.

I’ve never lived anywhere more beautiful than here.
It seems like I’ve found a little slice of paradise.
The beautiful smells and the quiet sounds that I hear
Tell me I’ve built my home in a place that’s really nice.

It’s as if a switch is flipped by someone above
Turning on the beauty every night that surrounds me.
Sharing this world with the woman that I love
Makes my life better than I ever thought it could be.

Sitting on our deck together, we live our story.
I could never have been given a better life.
Although our view is full of color and glory,
Nothing compares to the beauty of my wife.

Fading Away

From my youth, I don’t remember much about friends.
At least, not until I got into Junior High.
Something happened that I swore wouldn’t happen again.
My one and only “best friend” left me high and dry.

I never knew what I did to make her angry,
But she decided that we were no longer friends.
I was left all alone with no one but family.
My social life had been centered around Jen.

I made a conscious decision at age thirteen
To increase my social circle at least tenfold.
If ever again I was hit by something unforeseen,
At least I would have lots of friends and someone to hold.
