The Lack of Appreciation For the Foundation of This Nation

Suffering and pain for our nation’s gain,
but no one recognizes what those before us went through
because in today’s self-centered society the only thing that matters is you.
They fought for their freedoms, rights, and happiness,
yet all some remember of them is madness.
People don’t appreciate those who made our nation great.
They don’t realize, without them, the things we would miss.

People like Locke and Montesquieu,
who helped our early nation through
with their thoughts that spoke volumes
we have systems such as separation of powers and the natural rights.
They are forgotten by many and were hated by all,
for at that time their ideas seemed to appall.

The Constitution provided stability for our country.
Its Preamble promises domestic tranquility and the blessings of liberty.
This document is important to all,
for these promises are ensured for not only us but our posterity.
Through us, the people, our country came about,
and we, the people, need to figure out
that change is possible and dreams can come true,
as we have learned from those who came before me and you.

The Constitution spoke of the government and limitations of their power,
but the Anti-Federalists were furious that individuals had no rights to empower.
With no rights,
they feared that this new home of theirs would run into snares.
They protested and fought for they thought,
people must have freedoms and let their minds take flight.
In turn, you may thank these Anti-Federalists for the Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights consists of amendments
1, 2, 3 and more.
Many of these freedoms we share,
should be accredited to those who cared and made change happen.

Alice Paul, a suffragist set on the right for women to vote,
succeeded after discrimination and being tortured.
The right to vote,
such a privilege many take advantage of.
The 19th amendment was fought for by women with extreme determination
 like Alice Paul.
Remember them fondly and thank them all.

The 13th amendment is one to remember,
the abolishment of slavery happened in winter.
Abraham Lincoln worked everyday of his presidency
and wouldn’t take no for an answer from the members of democracy.
Though he was killed in a theatre one day,
we should remember what he did,
even though it caused dismay.
He passed an amendment that abolished slavery in our nation once and for all,
and for that he should be thanked for his contribution to the law.

Some others to remember are the 1st and the 8th.
With the 1st amendment, the freedoms of religion and speech are protected
along with the press and the right to peacefully assemble.
Last but not least is the right to petition the government in peace.
Many things some hold dear,
we don’t have to fear persecution,
with the freedoms protected by the 1st amendment in our nation.
We don’t have to dismay over cruel punishment,
or unusual sentences.
Thank goodness we are safe from pains such as these,
the 8th amendment also saves us from excessive fees.

As you leave and go on with your day,
always remember that change can be made.
Our country had to start somewhere and so do you.
Know what you set your mind to can come true.
Through the example of people long gone,
we can understand that you can’t go wrong.
In order to make change you must be the change,
don’t be afraid.
The impossible can be made.

We Aren'T What We Seem

You see us walking down the street,
but we never meet.
You look at us and see what you want to.
Taking time out of your day is too difficult,
so we go on with our lives,
Living behind a stereotype disguise.

A “try-hard,”
Who are they really?
They get the best grades
and succeed in all their escapades,
but inside they cry.
Their homes may be broken
and all they have to live for,
is walking through that school door.
Their feelings are unspoken,
all alone they live not cared for.

(Chorus)
Livin’ behind, a stereotype disguise
We aren’t what we seem.
We aren’t what we seem.
Look into our eyes,
and you will see...
Our lives, our feelings,
May be different than you believe.

A young girl,
a sick girl-
She’s clinically depressed.
Labeled and made fun of,
for the way she dressed.
She’s pushed in the halls,
they write on the walls,
about her.
Her mother is dying,
and now she is too.
She longs for a friend,
why not you?

(Chorus)
Livin’ behind, a stereotype disguise
We aren’t what we seem.
We aren’t what we seem.
Look into our eyes,
and you will see...
Our lives, our feelings,
May be different than you believe.

(Bridge)
Uniqueness is key,
to living life like a family.
We all can get along,
be strong!
We aren’t what we seem.
We aren’t what we seem.

One day we will be,
all a family.
We’re loved all the same,
no one to blame.
Once felt all alone,
now they feel at home.
Our love is a flame,
let it burn.
It’s your turn
to make a difference-
in a life.
We aren’t what we seem.
We really aren’t.

(Chorus)
Livin’ behind, a stereotype disguise
We aren’t what we seem.
We aren’t what we seem.
Look into our eyes,
and you will see...
Our lives, our feelings,
May be different than you believe.

Yeah, we aren’t what we seem.
Live your dream….
We aren’t what we seem to be,
Be free.

Life and Death

Life-
                     joyful, current
            breathing, moving, working
        dreams, sadness, wishes, graves
         struggling, suffering, mourning
                       dark, cold
                           Death-

The Past Illuminates the Future

The hatred in this world is sometimes too much to bear,
but the darker it gets, the more light to share.
People walk along the streets most everyday of their lives,
experiencing other cultures and seeing through different eyes.
They see humans with a range of ethnicities
and realize that the world is full of complexities.
People are discriminated for their race or their background,
as the Jews were so harshly treated during that bleak time, the Holocaust,
an event which has a memory that should never be lost.
The hopes and faith of so many of that population
resonate inside me as I live in this great nation.

Anti-Semitism, an abhorrent word,
meaning discrimination towards Jews for where they pray near the steeple,
or what they may look like or sound like or say.
Why were their lives the price to pay?
They met their demise for no reason but pure hatred from the unwise.
Others are mistreated due to the prejudice of many,
even today, after the dismay that the genocide caused.
Let us pause and realize that anti-Semitism has no place,
in our hearts or our minds.

We should conclude from these horrific acts of that infamous time,
that we should accept others with care
and pray for them each night
that they won’t receive a scare,
from those members of society who don’t feel it necessary to make it their obligation,
to assist fellow inhabitants of all nations.

A man named Paul Molnar shared with me,
through his speech I felt a call to accept others no matter the circumstances.
Through the things he survived and the horrors he saw,
instead of hating people for what they did he wanted us to love.
Several generations gathered in a room
to hear of the doom of some and the trials Paul faced,
the ghosts of the past with him forever.
The frustration and devastation of countless lost generations.
His small flame of hope went up in smoke so many years ago,
when he lost his entire family, to live detached from the ones he cherished,
who had so suddenly perished.
He was the last humble branch on his family tree.
Through it all he still shares with anyone who will receive his story,
so we won’t forget or dismiss an event such as this.

The victims and survivors of these tragic events should know that they are appreciated
and remembered by countless members of humanity,
and that through their pain and heartbreak I, like a great deal of others, have a new
sense of gratitude for the life I have.

When anyone is in their darkest hour,
they should remember, as Anne Frank declared clearly,
“I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.”
Kind hearts and precious souls that may need assistance,
from a stranger unknown, to get by and keep their persistence.
Never forget.
In the darkest moments great light shines the brightest.

Nothing More Than An Unmarked Grave

What will you do to be remebered;
			to become important?
Cure cancer, save lives, be the next Albert Einstein?
When you pass on will others think of you as
influential and amazing or unnoticeable and dull?

			Is it important to be important;
do you need to do something great?

How do we view influential people, important beings?
The scientist who discovered a way to use less fossil fuels,
or the mother who cared for her family her whole life
just to be killed in a horrific car crash,
			leaving everyone she loved behind?

			The question is:
How is greatness measured, who will be remebered?
In later years, who will be heroes of the medical field now in
                        textbooks worldwide,
			or the unknown,
			the unmarked grave?

Societal Rants

Put your clothes on.
Being proud of your body only goes so far.
You’re 14.
Calm down.
Aren’t we supposed to be kids?
You’re trying not to be.
You may look 21, but you aren’t.
Why would you want to grow up?

He does NOT care about you.
He wants one thing.
There will always be another guy.
Get it right.
Those clothes don’t empower anyone
When you look in the mirror what do you see?
Are you proud of who you are?
Or are you “happy” that you’re “accepted”?

I would say I don’t mean to rant, but I do.
It’s your life, but I can’t stand watching people waste theirs.

Do you want to be popular?
Fine
Do you want to be loved?
Fine
Do you want to be cherished?
Fine
You’re being used
Why do you surround yourself with people that don’t care about you?
It’s obvious
When you need them most, where are they?
Not with you

I have my own opinions and so do you…
Don’t hate me for what I think is the truth
What are you supposed to do when your “forever” only last until after the first night?

Now you feel broken, unwanted, horrible.
Who’s there to comfort you?
Definitely not your “best bae,” “wifey,” etc.
They’re over there in the corner with the guy that took the one thing that you owned.

Live your life.
Do what you want.
Wear your clothes.
Put on your makeup.
Buy stuff you don’t want.
Stay up late trying to impress someone.
Post your aesthetic photos.
Comment on others.
Pretend to be friends while you really are just jealous of each other.

Wipe your tears.
Sing your songs.
Look in the mirror.
Cry some more.

Why study your notes when you think being smart isn’t cool?
Just play dumb, it’s not like he cares if you know the square root of 36.

“Oh my goodness, that is my FAVORITE!”--You say that about everything
“Ewww, she’s so ugly. She has no clue how to do her makeup and she has no friends.”--Take a look at yourself

It’s really cool when you peak in highschool because the rest of your life is just a scary downhill slope.
It’s not like you can’t get out, just have fun finding the key when everyone doesn’t want you to leave.

He doesn’t deserve you.
Not even close.
If confidence scares him, no wonder he picked you.
That’s not an issue he has to worry about with “the love of his life.”

That’s a problem.-A girl without confidence

I look at your pictures and cry
You’re so:
Young.
Dumb.
And Reckless.
When you fall, he won’t be there to catch you.

By putting your body out there for everyone to see, there’s no secret, there’s nothing special about it anymore.
Like hell he isn’t going to show those nudes to anyone you’ve ever known.
Sweetie, you were wrong.
Society is pitted against us.
The women.
The fingers always point to us,
It’s always OUR fault.
“She was asking for it.”
“She’s dated so many guys, what a flirt.”
“How could anyone love someone who looks like THAT?”
“She’s in classes with all upperclassmen, what a nerd.”

The truth is, the people that will really appreciate you aren’t “popular.”
They aren’t “cool.”
They’re just people.
Normal, average, everyday, amazing, beautiful, real people.
Remember that.

A Baby's Smile

New life, so sweet
A baby's smile

The laughter of a newborn child
their sparkling eyes glimmer beautifully,
They have no awareness of what is to come

Be careful little ones
stay in your own imaginary world as long as you can,
for one day the bitterness of the Earth will seep through.
It will take away the light in your eyes,
removing the smile from your lips.
Eventually making its way into your very core,
slowly sucking out the the life inside you

I guess we must let reality slap us in the face at some point,
shaking you awake from your childhood dream
But why now?

Embrace your inner child,
don't judge others,
be happy.

Remember the sweet baby's smile each day you live,
and hope that such tranquility and joy lasts for an eternity.

Lemons

Tangy and sour,
					yellow and bright

					Lemons are deceptive,
					tough skin and sour fruit;
but when you take the time to add sugar and water,
					they create something sweet.

					Lemons are like people,
you have to know them and spend time with them,
					to understand and enjoy them.

Barbie Dolls

Plastic, fake,perfect,
lushious hair and artificial body
no flaws or imperfections

Inside, who are they really?
Conceited? Insecure? Lost without a cause?
Impeccable on the outside but what lies within?

Don't strive to be like everyone else,
just another Barbie doll walking by.
Be unique and be yourself don't let the opinions of others reign supreme.

Be true to you and real to your feelings,
not a perfect and fake doll on a shelf.
Motionless, expressionless, plastic, unmoving-
A Barbie doll like thousands of others.
