Football Hero

Crouched in a three-point stance
Coiled like a cobra, ready to strike
Knuckles white with clenched anticipation

Springing forward with a snap
Colliding with violent fury

A test of wills
A match of strength
Irresistable force meets immovable object
A clash of titans
A battle of behemoths

Play after play
Game after game
Season after season

Broken bones, shattered joints
Bumps, bruises, and blood
Sweat and tears
Heart and soul

All for the glory of the game
To batter through and reach the goal
To be the last warrior standing
When the final whistle blows
To be carried off the field of combat
Perched high on padded shoulders
By comrades who bled with you

Their hero.

A Bear Skin Rug, Part Ii

I awake to a numbing chill
The door stands open
The dying embers of last night's blaze
Offer no defense against Nature's winds

My fingers search for your skin
My eyes scan the room for a glimpse of you
My mind races, reviewing each scene
My muscles ache against the pain of the cold

Every touch
Every embrace
Every look
Every taste

So vivid in my mind
Yet no silken body lies beside me
No satin robe holds court in the chair
Was it all in my head

I know my angel exists
Her verse inspires me like no other
Her unsurpassed beauty fuels my dreams
But was she really here

I scramble for answers
I look for clues
I find the empty eyes of the only witness
But the beast has long been silenced

I'm left to ponder
Was it real or fantasy
For now, I must live with this dream
Til I can hold M'Lady by the fire.

A Bear Skin Rug

Winter's chilling blast blows through the open door
Wildly whipping the dancing flames
Your silken robe lounges languidly over the chair's arm
As it stands guard over the mighty creature's skin

Warm, white, and inviting
It beckons us with its warmth
Fingers entwined, daring not a release
Your warm lips speak to me without a word

I lay you down
Drink in your intoxicating beauty
The howling wind and crackling fire fade into nothing

There is only you
And me

My hands touch you
Feel you
Explore you
Every inch of your silken form

My lips retrace their journey
Every stop along the way
Driving my desire
Fueling my passion

Again our eyes meet
Our lips reclaim their prizes
My intentions are clear
You yield to them

Our union, fantastic
Yet forbidden
Still we cannot resist
Nature's attraction is too powerful

Amplified to animalistic lust
By the presence of our only witness
The once mighty beast whose hide
Now houses the burning blaze of our passion

As our bodies join in the amber glow
It suddenly becomes clear
My intentions mirrored yours
All along.

Anger

There it is again
Bubbling up from within
Wretched wrath washing over me
Vile disgusting filth freely flowing
Angry demons seizing control
Forced attrition to evil urges

Screaming
Yelling
Rants of rage

Watched from within
Helpless
Powerless

Unable to soothe the beast
Surrender to aggression
Until the bile is expelled
Vomited forth in fury
Leaving only the bitter tastes
Of regret and sorrow

Two Paths

Two lives
Two paths
Mirrored steps on different roads
Ever winding, never crossing
Separated by miles, never to meet

Fate
Chance
Act of God

Somehow technology created opportunity
Shared interests opened Windows
Conversation sparked curiosity

Still, two paths, separate
Could they cross
Could they merge
Could those steps be taken together
As two paths become one?

Time alone shall tell.......

Library

The ancient door creaks slowly open
The dusty chamber is dimly lit
Heavy air, aged and stagnant
Seems to cling to me, hanging on
Oaken floors moan with each step
Protesting loudly this unwelcome intrusion
Shelves lined with thick volumes
Tomes untouched, from ages past
Faded titles, out of focus
Shrouded lightly in dusty mystery
Somehow that book I seek
Seems almost to beckon to me
The heavy volume opens easily
Its yellowed pages reveal their secrets
Stories of an ancient time and place
Tales of trials, tribulations, travels
Of love, lust, laughter, loss
Of home, hope, hate, heartache
Yet these aren't Aesop's fables
Nor the fiction of Poe or Frost
For this Library is in my Mind
And I'm reading my memories of You.

The Nephew

Almost a year since first breath drawn
Into tiny lungs of my precious little one
Innocent eyes, wide and filled with wonder
Exploring over, around, and under

Outstretched arms beg for a lift
Into my arms, God's precious gift
He giggles and smiles when he's in my arms
Wins the world over with endearing charms

Everyone's a sucker for his cute little grins
Hearts will melt when grins mix with squints
He sleeps with his rear stuck up in the air
And has this little tail in back of his hair

He staggers when he walks
Like he's had too much wine
He's learning still
But he's doing just fine

I never imagined that one little kid
Could change our lives the way this one did
A cherubic face and a stocky little frame
This angel, my nephew, Brody is his name.

Innocence Lost

An auburn haired child
Hopeful eyes still twinkle brightly
Though devoid of the innocence
This world's heartlessness has stolen
Like a petty criminal does
Only fingerprints where once was value
Mankinds realities revealed too soon
To a young mind and soul
Not yet ready for this ugliness
Where once lived dreams and playfulness
Now resides pain, unrest and worry
Where trust, understanding and love once ruled
Fear, uncertainty, and despair now dominate
So young, much too young
To view our world without blinders
Search inside our hearts for clues
Dig deep into the dark recesses of our minds
Can we find any rhyme or reason
Dare we risk a guess or excuse
To explain our tragic failures to our children?

At the Carnival

The billboard proclaimed the welcome news
Rides, games, and fun for all!

Children gleefully running past
Clutching tickets and prizes in tiny hands
Or munching on corndogs and cotton candy
From the eager vendors along the midway

Tenders hawk their games of chance
Daring the men to win toys for the ladies
Step on up and try your luck
Ring the bell, pop the balloons

We take it all in while strolling by
Hands intertwined as we join the line
The talk is small yet time still flies
Til the operator seats us on our ride

Off we go, so slowly at first
Til up to speed, now whirling, twirling
The wind gently whips your auburn locks
Into a flowing comet's tail of reddish brown

The widening grin that graces your lips
Is surpassed only by dancing smiles in hazel eyes
For those fleeting moment the carnival fades away
No bells, no whistles, and no roadies' chants

There is only you, there across from me
Your unearthly beauty outshining the carnival lights
Our ride slows down and jerks to a halt
Jarring back into action my breath and my heart.

Sandcastle

We met upon life's golden beach
Saw a future, bright as the noonday sun
Hanging overhead
Bathing us with warmth and love

Upon these cinnamon sands we began
A monument to our newfound love
Our castle grew with us
Additions made
Each more stunning than the one before

Through trials that came like waves
Battered though we were
Our union survived each test
Each trial
Each tribulation
Our castle in the sand held fast

Yet the storms of life and love come fast and hard
The brightness of day yields to night
Castles made of sand, no matter their magnificence
Eventually melt back into the sea
Succumb to Mother Oceans tidal whimsies
Vanished forever beneath her mighty waves

We fought against her fury
Til the futility of our battle
Overwhelmed our will to fight

Sometimes the pain of holding on
Is worse than that

Of letting go.
